Here's more on the Cubs' pursuit of Harden.

The Cubs, who were rumored to be interested in Sabathia, now need to move on to plan B. That means Rich Harden or A.J. Burnett, the best option being Harden but the cheaper option being Burnett.

The Cubs have been in talks with the A's for almost a month and no deal has been done. The price for Harden could be the same as the deal done by the A's and Diamondbacks for Dan Haren. That deal included five prospects including major league ready arms as well as two top 50 prospects.

Despite some reports, the Cubs have the players to get a deal done. It will basically be a matter of time.

Do we have any top 50 prospects? So theyd essentially want 2 or 3 of Sean Marshall, Sean Gallagher, Donie Veal, Mitch Atkins, Kevin Hart, and Jeff Samardzjia and 2 or 3 of Wellington Castillo, Tyler Colvin, Felix Pie and Josh Vitters. Pass.

He has a NTC.

They're not going to get what they got for Danny Haren for Rich Harden. Vitters is a top 50 prospect.

Yeah.............there not going to get 5 players for Harden during the season. Maybe in the offseason, but during the season, 2 ML young players (say Gallagher/Pie) and 1 or 2 prospects (Veal, etc) should be more then enough to get Harden.

Its by choice that I block out the fact that we gave a 5th round pick an NTC.

He may wave it if he believes that he will have a better chance of pitching for the A's than the Cubs as of this point.....

It amazes me how infrequently Harden's durability (or lack thereof) is brought up.

Hudson and Burnett are probably about equally as non-durable.

probably not.

Looking at their track records, I guess you're right.

Either way, all 3 guys are solid options, IMO; just stay away from Wolf.

Hudson has a really good track record health-wise. I'd worry about PAP with him, but he's been consistent and solid throughout his career.

Seriously, I'm not worried about health. If any of those three can help get the Cubs to, and win a World Series I don't care if they do a Barbero after the win.

My concern is that they pull up lame before leading us to the promised land.

And Harden does top my list, I just don't know if we should pay Beane's price for a guy who is injured so often.

Hudson tops my list if he's really available. With the exception of his first year in Atlanta, Huddy consistently puts up an ERA+ of over 120. He's also come close to pitching 200 or more innings per season.

Harden, I like. But he hasn't thrown 100 IP in any season for the past 3 years. Hudson scares me a lot less than Harden.

Hudson should be our target, if he really is available. He's the definition of what we need. Not too old, not locked down for too many years, and just a very consistent #1/#2 (better suited for a #2 role, IMO)

With all of us on the edge of our seats with anticipation, where is our local poster with " inside info" Hoops? He usually pops in by now with some tidbits.

He left the board/was kicked out. Not too sure, but there is a long story behind it.

Hoops fled town months ago.

So he no longer posts?

Never mind, Prior Power answered that question. Thats too bad, it was nice to have someone on here with some sources. At least we still have Bruce!!

Baseball Tonight just had a segment on the Cubs responding with Harden. Basically saying that "The Cubs have been trying for the last night" and then debated the results of it. Thumbs up all over the place, talked for sure that the wild card is coming out of the central.

They said the "last month", basically rehashed the Sun-Times article.

Contrary to other reports, this article says that Burnett will only be traded for a "stellar prospect."

The Jays feel no sense of urgency to trade Burnett by the July 31 non-waiver deadline, a club source said Monday. They would need to get at least one "absolute stellar" prospect in return, the source said.

Of course, the article also implies the Jays would get two draft picks for Burnett if he leaves. I'm not sure that Burnett will be a type A. Maybe he will, but he could very likely be a B.
