I figure, eventually, posts about every respectable left fielder on every team with little to no playoff hopes would come up.

Now, these are all players to think about if in 3 weeks, Sorianos splint comes off and reveals more damage than wed thought, and we need to fill that spot.

Rangers: Milton Bradley .333/.454/.629 14HR 45RBI-Beautiful stat line. Granted, hes more of a CF/RF, but Im sur he could learn.

Kansas City: Jose Guillen .283/.306/.500 11 HR 50 RBI-looks liek he doesnt like to walk, but the .500 slg and 50 RBI suggets he knows how to come through

Seattle: Raul Ibanez .264/.332/.436 8HR 40RBI-it seems as though as long as the concept of trade rumors have existed, there have been those linking Ibanez to the Cubs.

Pirates: Jason Bay .286/.394/.527 14HR 36RBI-would they do it again? send us a top notch player for our garbage? Bay has been rumored out of Pittsburg for 3 years now. Could this be his ticket out? Would they be dumb enough to trade him within the division?

Reds: Adam Dunn .229/.397/.567 16HR 41RBI-very impressive OPS for a guy with a .229 average. Another guy whose always inn on the trade rumors, and with Cincy rebuilding with some impressive prospects, this may be the year.

Bay is approaching free agency. With McLouth, Nady, and McCutcheon, I wonder if they would consider moving him. Which also begs the question, could Nady handle CF? Would he be worse than Edmonds/Johnson, both of whom are pretty bad?

I think of all of them, I'd like to have Bay. Bad news is, there's no way we go after a big-time OF that can't handle CF, unless Soriano's injury is enough to keep him out for the whole season. I imagine that Milton Bradley might be a good target considering that, though - he's a switch hitter, so he can satisfy Lou and Hendry's lefty fetish, he can fill in for Soriano while he's out, and then shift to CF when he comes back. What are the chances the Rangers trade him?

Pirates won't trade Bay. If they do, it would be in the offseason. I think odds are about 90% that they trade Nady though. Bay is the face of that franchise. McClouth has shown to be another player they can build around. Doumit may be the answer at C. Laroche is their only other decent offensive player, and there's not much of a market for him. They also really like Jason Michaels in their OF, and have McCutheon and others in the minors. Nady could get them a pretty decent 3B bat to bridge the gap to Alvarez or a decent arm to throw in that rotation. They could use a power RHP in the worst way.

I don't see the Reds dealing Dunn in the Div same with Bay and the pirates.

Guillen I like depending on the price. Bradley would be a perfect fit.

Giles/Maddux/Bell

Pie/Marquis/Veal/ ceda

He's a RF, but Brian Giles is the guy.

If we were to have 2 guys pushing 40 in the outfield, Id rather Bonds be the second than Giles.

better be joking otherwise I have a noose for sale you interested

There's really no point in acquiring a LF for 6 weeks unless you have a spot for them after 6 weeks.

If Lou would just toy with moving Fukudome to center we'd have a corner outfield spot opened up for someone like Jason Bay.

I said in the original post if Sorianos cast is removed 3 weeks from now and the damage will require more time than anticipated.

It would be silly to waste resources on a player who wouldn't even have to place to play when Soriano gets back, unless it's somebody who would come very cheap. The guys you mentioned would not come very cheap.

The focus should still be on pitching. There's no reason that this team shouldn't be fine without Soriano for a couple months. I mean, he's been what...like their 3rd or 4th best hitter so far this season?

Of those I mentioned, Bradley might come the cheapest. Hes on a 1 year deal with Texas, and with Hamilton, Murphy, Salty, and Kinsler, they have som nic building blocks and probably dont have future plans for Bradley.

Personally, with the limited amount of tradeabe prospects we have, Id rather save them up for a quality starter.

If were looking for a cheaper alernative, there is Lofton, and Luke Scott and Jay Payton in Baltimore. Scotts putting up OK numbers, but I dont know if hed be much of an upgrade over a Johnson/Murton platoon.

Ibanez might be the guy and then if Ward doesn't return to form, he could be the primary left handed hitter off the bench.

My thoughts exactly. And I doubt he'd have much of a price tag given his contract and age.

Donnie Veal might be enough to land Ibanez.

I'd rather consider Choo($390,400, R/F,L/F) of Cleaveland Indians if possible.

Other than the fact that he hits LH, what's the difference between him and Matt Murton as major league hitters/LFs? Murt's about a year older...Choo's got a lot more SBs at the minor league level, but Murton's got a better success rate in the majors (8-11, Choo is 5-9)

I still can't believe that Murton is not on this team, especially with Soriano out.

If you look at the ops, obp, slg & avg especially risp , I think that Choo is far better than Murton this year. Yeah I know that Murton has just few at bat this year. Maybe it's not fair in small samples but one has grab the chances in his team and the others didn't. If you insist on the success rate SB, actually I have nothing to say.

Posted

It's not so much the success rate as it is the lack of attempts by Choo in his career. He's got 230 career ABs, and only 9 SB attempts, while he attempted 198 SBs in 2,230 ABs in the minors.

So he averaged 1 SB attempt every 11.26 ABs in the minors...he's averaging 1 SB attempt every 25.67 ABs in the majors so far.

Basically, the one area he would be a major upgrade over Murton in was his SBs, and he's running less than half as much so far in the majors, so that really doesn't help his cause.

I think that the original post "if Sorianos cast is removed 3 weeks from now and the damage will require more time than anticipated." means someone who can fill up the hole as a hitter not a runner.
