Did Levine say what the Cubs chances are?

He just said he expects the Cubs to make a hard push in the coming days/weeks.

Levine is on MJH right now

Says names haven't been discussed yet, but his Indians source tells him that they'd be looking for Cedeno (to move Peralta out of SS), Gallagher, and one or two of their top minor leaguers. I believe he mentioned Vitters.

He expects the Indians to make a move sometime in the next couple weeks with Sabathia. Also mentioned that Sabathia's preference would be an NL team, because he loves to hit and was a better hitter than Zambrano coming up (not sure why this comes into play, pretty sure CC doesn't have a NTC, maybe in terms of an extension).

Well, if that's the case it's much less than I thought it would take to get him. I honestly didn't think the Cubs would even be in contention prospectwise. Even though I like Gallagher, it would be too tough to pass up, imo.

I agree with the poster who said Hendry ought to ask for a 72-hour window to talk extension before parting with Cedeno, Gallagher, Vitters, plus one more top prospect.

definitely agree...if he is coming with the intention of signing a deal...give up more prospects...if not...they can't really be asking for a king's ransom for a couple of months...

If that's all it takes, do it right now. That would be a great deal for the Cubs.

it is a good deal for the cubs, but it is also a good deal for the indians too...

if this actually happens, we should all really be thanking gallagher for coming up here and pitching his heart out this season...

Sure it would be good idea to ask for it, but regardless, I'd take this deal in a heartbeat and do jumping jacks like I'm getting paid to.

What the hell ask for it, but it certainly won't be a dealbreaker. Hell I only want 72 hours if he pitched the day before and won't be pitching for another 72 hours.

Now, now, do it now.

Who would be the 4th? Veal? Cedeno, Gallagher, Veal, and Vitters? I do it.

Not that I care much, but who would take over as backup SS?

Good question. I think if it came down to it you could slide Fontenot there for a game or two when needed. If Theriot suffered a long-term injury though, I don't know what we'd do.

If we traded Cedeno, I'm sure we could pick up someone who could play SS off the bench.

Don't know if this is anything rehashed, but got it from PSD:

Tribe will start shopping Sabathia soon

C.C. Sabathia | Indians | Interested: Cubs? Dodgers? Red Sox? Rays? Brewers?

The Cleveland Indians are expected to start offically shopping ace C.C. Sabathia in the next few days, writes ESPN's Buster Olney. The Indians are currently 12 games behind the Red Sox in the Wild Card race and 11 1/2 games behind the White Sox in the AL Central, which means a sale will be coming to Cleveland.

Olney lists five teams (Brewers, Rays, Red Sox, Dodgers and Cubs) that could make a legitimate run at aquiring Sabathia.

He also says he has not spoken to a single person who thinks Sabathia will sign before testing the free agent market. One general manager told Olney, "He's going to test the market, and everybody understands that."

And quick question, can Vitters be traded yet or do we still have to do the PTBNL thing?

It would have to be PTBNL because Vitters didn't sign last year until mid-August.

i guess it is better that he is going to test the market...teams shouldn't have to give up as much for a rental right?

that means that we have a much better chance i think

Assume for a second that we know for a fact that we CANNOT re-sign CC. Assume that he is ASSURED to sign with someone else after the season.

Would everyone still do this deal as talked about?
