Also mentioned that Sabathia's preference would be an NL team, because he loves to hit and was a better hitter than Zambrano coming up (not sure why this comes into play, pretty sure CC doesn't have a NTC, maybe in terms of an extension).

Well, if that's the case it's much less than I thought it would take to get him. I honestly didn't think the Cubs would even be in contention prospectwise. Even though I like Gallagher, it would be too tough to pass up, imo.

definitely agree...if he is coming with the intention of signing a deal...give up more prospects...if not...they can't really be asking for a king's ransom for a couple of months...

Sure it would be good idea to ask for it, but regardless, I'd take this deal in a heartbeat and do jumping jacks like I'm getting paid to.

Good question. I think if it came down to it you could slide Fontenot there for a game or two when needed. If Theriot suffered a long-term injury though, I don't know what we'd do.

The Indians are currently 12 games behind the Red Sox in the Wild Card race and 11 1/2 games behind the White Sox in the AL Central, which means a sale will be coming to Cleveland.

 

Olney lists five teams (Brewers, Rays, Red Sox, Dodgers and Cubs) that could make a legitimate run at aquiring Sabathia.

 

He also says he has not spoken to a single person who thinks Sabathia will sign before testing the free agent market. One general manager told Olney, "He's going to test the market, and everybody understands that."

 

And quick question, can Vitters be traded yet or do we still have to do the PTBNL thing?

It would have to be PTBNL because Vitters didn't sign last year until mid-August.

Assume for a second that we know for a fact that we CANNOT re-sign CC. Assume that he is ASSURED to sign with someone else after the season.
