I wonder how many of the drunk bleacher bums at today's game haven't heard about Jim Edmonds signing yet. I can just picture their faces as they hear "now, batting 6th and playing center field, number 21....Jim Edmonds".

Oh, the horror.

They probably won't do anything since that announcement will never happen. Edmonds is wearing 15. Marquis is wearing 21.

Someone in another thread said Marquis gave Edmonds number 21.

Makes no sense. He's always had 15. Marquis has had 21. Why would he change?

I figure this will be a good debut for Edmonds. If his bat speed is reduced, Maddux isn't the type of pitcher to bust him inside with hard fastballs. If he's willing to go the other way against Maddux, he should have a good day.

I'll predict 2/4 with a double as his line.

The real lineup

Soriano, LF

Theriot, SS

Lee, 1B

Ramirez, 3B

Fukudome, RF

Edmonds, CF

Cedeno, 2B

Blanco, C

Dempster, P

Thanks Bruce. How do you feel about this Edmonds move?

It's a low-risk move. Worth a try although I said in my blog I'd take a pass if it were me. They're going to assign Dave Keller full time to Pie in Iowa. Let's just see what happens.

Thanks. What's Keller going to focus on with Pie?

I'll take a stab at this one: Hitting.

Yeah....that's it! Seriously, I'd love to know what aspects they are going to work on.

They want him to continue working on his weight shifting, moving forward instead of planting the front foot. They also want him to adjust better on breaking pitches. I'm not sure how they'll work on the second part, but we'll see.

I would let Rich Hill throw a bunch of curve balls to him... Since they're both in AAA, grr.

Planting of the front foot would tell me he has his weight already shifted too far forward? I would assume they are working with him to keep his hands back if he does shift his weight forward, at the very least. I'd really like to see some of his hip action/weight distribution and hands in slow mo. Thanks for the info Bruce, good stuff.

That won't do much for him but make him look silly.

I'm guessing that Lou wants to see a little out of Edmonds before he moves him up to 5th and moves Fukudome to 2nd.

Either that or its wishful thinking. Oh well, the only singular reason that I thought this move would help the Cubs has been erased by Lou's incompetence.

Nate McLouth is still on steroids (or something).

First inning HR, his 11th, puts the Bucs up 1-0 on the Cards.

I drafted him in all 4 of my leagues.

i have him in my league as well

Hopefully they'll send him to us for Andres Torres, Bobby Scales, and Les Walrond by the All Star Break.

Actually theres one more reason why he might keep this lineup. Because he is going to strictly keep Edmonds/Reed in a strict platoon and doesn't want Fukudome to have to switch from 2nd to 5th on a nightly basis.

I didn't even know what his number was. Somebody said Marquis gave him 21 so I assumed he had always used number 21. Apparently I was misinformed.

Ha, I forgot about this pic. I'm pretty sure that's our very own Jason Marquis he is victimizing, too.

Good God, Edmonds' ass is ginormous.

I had a great joke for this one but I'm gonna chicken out

With all due respect to Bruce, I think even he would agree that people are allowed to have differing opinions about things. Now obviously he's more in the know, and might have some sort of knowledge about why Pie was never given a shot, or why Edmonds was better than his numbers in SD, but even then, this isn't a communist board where everyone is supposed to think alike.

I was pissed that they didn't retire #21 when Sammy left.

Now that one of my most hated players of all time will be wearing the number of my favorite player of all time makes me mad enough to break things.

Why does it make somebody a meatball to dislike bad baseball players on the Cubs?
