Well, maybe Gallagher can earn himself a rotation spot here. We all know how reactionary Lou can be.

Something good could come of this crap game.

Cubs are looking good today.

The pitching's great, the offense is great, and Lou Piniella is teh smrat!

At least the Cubs aren't getting swept! We can go 1-2 in every series for the rest of the year and avoid a sweep every time! Sounds like a plan!

It's obvious that this is more than just a slump at this point. This team has major weaknesses. The question is, which ones are the most glaring, and which ones are easiest to address in season?

I'm not saying the team is as horrible as its been playing, but its clearly not a 90+ win team.

My 'Needs Improvement' list:

-Starting pitching

-Middle relievers

-Managing (putting the best players in the game, in game situations, etc)

If Lix does something positive here, I won't say anything bad about him for at least 48 hours.

Whew, I can continue disbelieving...

Yeah, he should get a hit in every AB he takes, like the rest of the team.

Haha. You Pie, Hill lovers really go overboard sometimes. Nothing like a little exaggeration, no?

I simply said I was an unbeliever. You went off the deep end. Not like its anything new, I am used to you guys getting super testy.

I believe there are many more Pie bashers than Pie lovers. The entire team sucks right now, yet you single out Pie constantly. Then you quote yourself like somebody actually cares. Why not post the same thing about the great Reed Johnson? His .664 OPS is really something. Oh, another out by RJ.

I'm just saying, give the kid a break. He has a ton of potential and has been getting inconsistent PT. If we had a solid option in CF then I'd agree with not playing Pie right now. But because we have a guy OPSing .664 (now lower) even after a red hot start as our other option, I think we should give the kid a chance.

Oh...and Rich Hill lovers are looking pretty smart right now.

1) I don't post frequently enough for you to make another exaggerated statement like me calling Pie out "constantly." You may have me confused with someone else, if so, fine.

2) I don't care enough about Reed to post about Reed. I also haven't had to hear he was the greatest thing since sliced bread for 4 years either.

3) Why do they look smart? Cuz Lieber struggled in his first start of the year while Hill looked good against Minor League talent? Rough comparison, but whatever.

1) You generalized me as a "Pie lover" and even a "Hill lover" although my post didn't include Rich Hill whatsoever, so I generalized you as a "Pie basher". "Pie bashers" constantly post about their dissatisfaction with Pie.

2) If you don't want Pie to play CF, who do you want? People have had reasons to say good things about Pie. He's hit at every level, while being underage most of the time. I'm glad you judge him on a total of 235 inconsistent ABs split over last year and the start of this year, though.

3) They look smart because obviously Lieber isn't the answer. Hill not only looked good against Minor Leauge talent, but looks very good against Major League talent for all of 2007.

1) apologies for the generalization re: Hill

2) ALMOST every level. Its not the number of AB's I am looking at, its his swing. You don't have to be a genius to know its a block of swiss cheese. (Long and full of holes)

3) Hill is in his own head and is also his own worst enemy. I wish he'd figure it out, cuz I'd rather have him here as well.

This will be the 4th straight series where we go L-W-L. And with Haren going on Friday, chances are the next series is off to a great start to continue the streak.

I disagree with this not being a 90+ win team. Not with this offense and in this division.

The starting pitching does need improvement, as does the managing.

We will get swept by Arizona

Didn't Tim McCarver once say a walk was worse than a homerun?

No. FJM posted a broadcast he did where he was apparently surprised that, on average, more runs scored in an inning resulting from a leadoff walk than a leadoff HR. He claimed this was "unconventional wisdom"

I think it was the other way around. He had the whole 'revolving door' idea in his head regarding people getting on base and was surprised to hear that a leadoff homer led to more runs.

You're right, thats what I meant. I got confused in my wording about what he believed versus what was actually the truth. The basic idea is the idiotic notion that a homerun kills a rally while a walk ignites it

i just saw scott eyre walking downtown.

Just because I'm in a pissy mood...

What the hell is he doing walking downtown? Shouldn't he be watching the game? Jerk.

Take you time Sean. Lou needs to head out there to stall. This isn't an official game yet, right?

i think it was official once the cubs half of the fifth ended.

Yep. When the home team leads, it only needs to go through the top of the 5th.

It doesn't matter, theres no way they would postpone a game with 2 outs in the 5th with one team winning 7-0
