I read a lot of complaints in the game thread about Thom Brenneman and Chris Walsh but I didn't realize Thom was that bad. The Cub Reporter went through some of the stuff he said yesterday. Some of it isn't bad but Thom does imply Geovany Soto is juicing up.

Harang is the ugliest player in the majors, I think he scares the Cubs with his face.

Don't you dare tempt me to post pictures of Ezequiel Astacio.

I wasn't sure who you were talking about so I did a google search and found this blog that contained this wonderful quote:

And yes, the Astros, don't have a single African-American on their team. I thought for a few moments that Ezequiel Astacio might be black, but it turns out he's from a rare race of people, officially known only as "ugly."

TB: "I have a beef with this whole catch thing. ... I've have only heard of 'let's go out and play catch'. Have you heard from anybody who outside of the Northeastern part of the country that ever said 'let's go have a catch." Have you ever heard that said ever in your life. The only place I've heard that term is the northeast and now i"m hearing it all over the place.

"That Field of Dreams movie, I guess that's what made it popular"

I agree with Thom. Have a catch is a stupid phrase I've only heard in the northeast.

that's pretty unprofessional. especially since soto's improvement coincided with him dropping 25 lbs.

Yea, most people don't lose bulk on 'roids.

I thought he was at his most professional when he attacked Pie for no reason about his fielding. THen he had to eat a nice plate of crow when Lix made the amazing catch to rob Griffey.

CUBS are 13-3 when people who stayed at Fred Hornkohl's house during the playoffs last year (Fred, CT, myself) start game threads.... 5-11 when those three don't.

Hey now, I was 2-1

Brenly has a strange hatred for Felix also. He's bashed him consistently for the last week and a half in the games I have seen.

Watching the game yesterday with Thom Brenneman and whoever the other dude was was absolutely nerve-wracking. For one, there was an incredible amount of "dead air" time.

*He led off with criticism on a stat showing that Felix Pie hasn't made an error in so many chances. He commented that Pie was horrible with his throws to bases and has a serious problem overthrowing cutoff men. I seem to remember the PERFECT throw the other day to nail a baserunner at 3rd....

*He did mention the unexplained "spike" in performance for Geovany Soto the past couple years. Also stated that everyone is tested these days. I am not sure what his point was, but I doubt he would have made such comments about Reds players.

Very, very tough to listen to that broadcast.

I feel like that's been a trend all year.

The only interesting note that I heard on the Reds radio broadcast last night was that Lou had told them in the clubouse that "We have to have Rich Hill back to win this season. We need him badly".

Other then that they bashed Pie's hitting, although a little more complimentary of his defense than the TV guys (especially after the catch, which for the first 3-4 seconds they had announced it as a homerun). They implied that Soto wasn't great, but I could have misinterpreted that as it was a throwaway comment relating to Cueto coming out of the game.

I agree with that. We need a good Hill and Gallagher in Marquis spot.

I am appreciating more and more the option of DVRing the beginning of the games and then fast-forwarding up to real-time and missing most of the clutter.

For the half inning I listened to the game on XM Marty "the dick, Sr." was harder on Dusty than he was on the Cubs. The dick, Jr. just hates the Cubs because they canned him in favor of Chip.

Well, we all knew Pie would be starting today. Harang is exactly the sort of extremely good right-handed pitcher that Lou likes to play him against.

The pleasant surprise is seeing Cedeno in the lineup, even if it is at the expense of the wrong middle infielder. (Though I wont argue that DeRosa could probably use a day off)

Pie should be seventh, but I have no issues beyond that.

I really hope this lineup explodes today.

Yeah, DeRosa has not started 1 game all season. He has been playing way too much.

Note that this is not because of his talent level, but DeRosa has shown to be a player who tires and is not a good 155 game starter. They really need to rest him more like once a week.
