Will he get hurt? The difference between playoffs and Spring Training is only a few months. Kerry has been getting very regular work in the pen lately, going more than an inning, back to back days, and sometimes more than that with no real setbacks or pain that we are aware of. I'm not talking about making the move now, but more towards the end of the season if the Cubs manage to capture the division early.

As much of a competitor as Kerry is, wouldn't he want to be part of what could be Chicago history? Pitching game #2 of the World Series or being a late inning reliever?

I think it's a very legitimate discussion.

I don't know, getting the final out as a closer would be pretty cool and go down in history.

I don't think it's very legitimate at all. He can't stay healthy as a starter, the short outings keep his arm from falling off. Practically speaking, there's no way Lou or Hendry consider it. And if you were going to move a bullpen arm to the rotation, make it Marmol. The only reason he moved to the pen was necessity at the MLB level.

i'd say there is a very, very slim chance he ever starts again, let alone this season. after all they've done in an attempt to keep him healthy, do you really think they're going to change it up now that he's healthy and dominant? no way.

I cant remember where the article was that I read, but in it Wood said he has no desire to start again. He said this is the best hes felt in years, and finally is pitching without the fear of getting injured every time he throws a pitch. Hes also said countless times, he wants his little boy to remember seeing him pitch, and with the way things are going he doesnt want to mess with anything.

2 straight fastballs to Kemp to make it 0-2, and Kemp is known as a fastball hitter who hasn't figured out how to hit a major league slider yet, and Kerry throws a lazy (only 93 MPH) fastball right on by Kemp for strike 3.

And here I thought the whole time he'd strike him out on a slider.

I just don't see the Cubs taking any chances with Wood this year. They have a good thing going with him as closer. Maybe he can remain healthy as a starter, but I'm unconvinced of that and don't see the Cubs taking a chance on that this year. IF the Cubs were to consider trying him as a starter again I think they'd do it the same way as they did with Dempster, stretching him out in Spring Training and seeing how it goes.

You're right. Sorry to have hijacked the thread. Back to "sham closer" and "we won't win with Wood" discussion.

:D

And he is only hitting 98 on the gun.

In the old days, you weren't a real closer unless you could throw at least 115 mph.

it's pretty awesome that kerry is doing this well. i hope it lasts.

Like someone said earlier, watching Wood get the final out to win the World Series would be one of the most awesome things I'll ever see.

After 100 years, I'll take a sham World Championship. :D

Reminder that the last 3 times the Cubs have made the playoffs Kerry played an integral part to that process. Well sort of in 2007, but it holds true the previous 2 times, and would hold true this year if we are so lucky to make it.

I would imagine it would be very hard (pun intended) to play with a boner so I agree with the thread title.

I'm very surprised this joke wasn't made sooner. That said.... :rotfl: :rotfl:

Wood looked unhittable yesterday.

He's clearly just trying to fool you into thinking he's good.
