Fuku's in a bit of a slump right now.

He is? In his last 3 games he was 5-12 with 4 BB before today...

Fine. He's not in a slump. Just crap all over everything I say. :p

Lou really needs to stop sending the runners so damn often.

As well as Lee has been hitting, he probably figured Derrek would put the bat on the ball.

I don't particularly care what Lou's rationale is. This team is better off if we never attempt a hit and run all season. Lou really needs to stop calling for a few each game.

With an ump using a tight strike zone and pitchers throwing so many balls it's foolish to hit and run.

You don't really need that qualifier at the beginning, IMO.

It's a good strategy if used correctly.

There is never a good time for a hit and run.

Now if you want to change it to Earl Weaver's run and hit, you might have a case.

3-2 with two out is a good time.

I love the hit-and-run call on a full count.

You don't force your hitter to swing at a strike he'd otherwise let go, and obviously if the pitch is a ball, then you're fine.

Just because a strategy backfires doesn't automatically make it wrong. Even good decisions can turn out poorly.

It'd be nice to keep them from scoring because we are going to get to the pen who was used quite a bit yesterday and the day before.

I'm catching up via sportsline's gamecenter and this thread...is Lilly looking like the Lilly of old, or are the Reds just that bad today?

For the first 3 innings, yes. This inning, he's looking like 2008 Lilly again.

The problem comes when you swing at Ball 4 and the runner is thrown out at 2B. Or you ground into a double play. Or hit the ball in the air and get the runner doubled off 1st.

There's way, way, way too much risk involved in the hit & run for justifying its use on anything remotely resembling a regular basis.
