Don't get me wrong, I like watching Z hit quite a bit. I like the strategy that not having the DH brings. However, I think that the NL getting the DH is more or less an inevitability and I used to have a problem with that. Now, I kind of like what the DH offers in terms of resting players but still keeping their bats in the lineup.

I'm expecting that everyone here still hates it, though.

I wouldn't mind it as much if it was in the NL than I do that it's just in the AL. Nothing sucks more than having runners in scoring position or a situation where you could possibly score runs and your pitcher comes up to bat with either 2 outs or with less than 2 outs ands having to waste an out to sac bunt.

There are pros and cons to it.

On the pro side, there are fewer chances for your pitcher to get hurt, you don't have to wear down your bullpen as badly because you don't have to pinch hit all the time, you get a lot more versatility as far as getting the best hitters in the lineup, and finally, it's a lot easier to break in a position prospect that's likely to have an OBP somewhere around .290 his first season when you don't have a pitcher with an OBP of .210 hitting behind him. Also, as you said, it's easier to keep guys rested.

On the cons side, it's not the way the game was always played. Some of the records set in the pre-DH era can't be compared to modern ones, there's a lot less strategy involved, it makes the manager have even less impact. There tends to be less running and basestealing with the DH, and finally, there are guys who spend most if not their entire career DHing who never would have been everyday players if they had to take the field every game (David Ortiz anyone).

I think it's inevitable because sooner or later the owners will throw that particular bone at the player's union in order to get whatever small concession they can in the way of revenue sharing/salary cap/drug testing.

Bring on the DH. Watching almost every pitcher in the National League make an automatic out is stupid. Watching dudes like Hill and Randy Johnson hit because they have to is basically a joke. I can't understand why anyone likes it. Tradition for the sake of tradition is lame.

I can't understand why anyone wants to watch Ryan Theriot hit on a regular basis. Free hitter for him plz!!!

It makes the game more boring. I've always thought that, and I always will.

AL baseball is simply more boring. And it's largely because of the DH.

Watching a sac bunt is more exciting than watching Ortiz or Hafner or Frank Thomas? :-k
