The Sullivan article says Marquis is still not over the flu so he won't be able to go tonight

I know it may not be fasionable, but I still would prefer to not give into the Pirates early season strength (and that killing lefties). I would almost like to see Lieber start, let him go 5 innings, atleast. Have Marshall pitched 2 innings, and then finish the game with Howry and/or Wood. So that's the major problem with playing two LONG Extra inning games, you leave yourself thin for a couple of games.

Trying to throw Lieber out there for that long without getting him properly stretched back out at his age is just begging for him to get hurt, at least IMO. The guy wasn't even available to pitch at all last night. How is he going to suddenly be able to go 5 or 6 innings just 1 day later?

It really is too bad that Marquis couldn't start tonight though. Philadelphia is a terrible matchup for Marquis (except for Jimmy Rollins-for some reason Marquis absolutely owns him), and Pittsburgh of course has this strange split as well that impacts Hill.

Personally, I want Marquis going in Philly as a theoretical ground ball pitcher and Hill pitching in a park that isn't too friendly to right handed hitting hitters in terms of power. I think this will work out fine.

Then the Cubs will be playing with fire, by starting a lefty against a lefty killing offense.

If we are going to risk pitcher's health, I'd rather it be old dudes like Lieber. It's not unheard of for guys like him to make a spot start and be perfectly fine for 5-6 innings - see David Weathers. Plus, Lieber hasn't been taxed at all this year. He went 2 innigs, 24 pitches, had 2 days rest, and 3 innings 35 pitches. He threw multiple innings on multiple occasions in the spring, and has an entire career of starts under his belt. We aren't talking about asking Howry or Wuertz to start here. If Lou is seriously considering the Pirates' early splits, Lieber starting is a legit option.

Hill had a 5.54 ERA there in 2 starts last season.

I never really checked the stats I was just thinking out loud. Two starts isn't much of a sample size though.

I am glad I am not soto's knees.

Wonder if this means Theriot's dropped from the 2 hole for good.

That would be sweet. What would be better is if Cedeno played though.

Wow, Fontastic batting 2nd and Soto playing again. Surprised to not see any other regulars besides DeRo getting the day off.

I like this lineup, though.

I could delete that picture and make your post look dumb. :)

Considering the sample size, can we really make much out of the pirate's righty/lefty splits?

that's why i thought it was stupid to switch pitchers. and i don't like hill's chances giving up tons of flyballs to philly's lineup in that park.

I hope we win ,but I hope Theriot goes hitless in all his AB's so we can get him on the bench and get Cedeno to be evreyday SS

Grit goes beyond hits.

Theriot can increase Derrek Lee's AVG by 10 points simply by getting his uniform dirty.

Z going tommorrow... Nice

Jason Marquis has been scratched from his scheduled start Friday because of an illness.

The original plan was for Marquis to go tonight, but the Cubs had announced earlier that Rich Hill would start. Now they'll also go to Carlos Zambrano and Ted Lilly on regular rest Friday and Saturday. Marquis could pitch Sunday if he's feeling better.

Gameday audio hasn't started yet right? I work graveyard tonite and I figured I'd purchase audio, record live, then DL to ipod for listening at work. So I just signed up and not sure how it works exactly.
