Injuries are hurting Cintron's chances at making the roster, which is good news for Cedeno and Fontenot and likely Patterson as well.

Link.

Infielder Alex Cintron's body, if not his chances of winning a bench job on the Cubs' Opening Day roster, took another hit Tuesday when he hurt his left hamstring running out a single in the eighth inning.

He's on a minor league contract. I see no reason to not keep him in AAA until fate forces our hand... unless we think we can catch lightning in a bottle.

Unless he has a clause in his contract that asks for his release if he's not on the major league roster by a certain date.

I think that's when fate forces their hand.

The Roberts' trade could have an effect on Cintron. Cedeno sounds like a certainty and Patterson is a maybe in the offer.

If the Roberts trade is made, suddenly DeRosa is the new Cintron/Cedeno/Patterson. And DeRosa certainly has a leg up on the lot of them.

I am not disappointed at all by this. He's been hitting well in spring training - but I'm pretty sure he still sucks.

Speaking of lightning in a bottle, I was glancing at Felipe Lopez' numbers earlier today. It looks like Christian Guzman will win the SS job in Washington, so Lopez could be trade bait.

While he most certainly isn't high on my list of players I'd like to acquire, he's had a couple of decent years prior to last year. Is he any good defensively?

It looks like he has 20 HR power if you get him back into the NL Central. It looks like he has 40 SB speed as well. If it didn't cost much to pick him up, I think he might provide more value than Theriot.

Felipe Lopez would be the biggest low risk/high reward player the Cubs could possibly get. It wouldn't cost to much to get him. The Cubs wouldn't be forced to make him an everyday player. His upside is as high as any other middle IF on the roster. I believe he's about average defensively at SS, maybe a little below. He's probably above average at 2B.

It makes too much sense...therefore, Hendry isn't even considering it. I know it's a generalization, but how many times have we talked about scrap heap players with low risk/high reward that can be had for next to nothing that just pass right on by the Cubs? Hendry seems to only want to use that thought process on trying to stumble on some cheap pitchers, never, position players.

Lopez is pretty bad defensively. He has all the tools to be good, but has never put it together especially at short. At one time, his bat made up for those shortcomings.

BTW, I'm not saying he might not be a bad buy low candidate. I was just answering the defensive question, and that really is that he is pretty decent at 2nd, but a pretty awful defensive SS.

I can not post the quote, bc it is "premium content," but according to The Sporting News Rumor was that the Cubs were inquiring about Lopez, but it was denied by two sources....

Last week, there was a rumor going around that the Cubs were interested in Lopez's services, but two sources squashed that rumor. An opposing scout believed the Nationals would have a tough time trading Lopez because of perceived "attitude issues."

I would like to see Patterson make the team. He has been very impressive this spring.

That's where I am at this point, also. If DeRosa isn't an everyday player, then let Patterson share some time at 2nd with DeRosa. For all we know, Patterson can be every bit as good as Brian Roberts and he's already wearing a Cub uniform. Patterson has the patience to draw walks, he has equal power to Roberts, he can swipe bases equally to Roberts and he's hit for average. The only drag on Patterson at this point is his defense, and I think they're giving up on him too early if they move him, to be honest.
