Oh god, it's too good to be true. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!

What's really amazing to me is that someone could be in baseball for their entire adult life and not understand a fundamental principle of the game.

or that General Managers wouldn't call up some references before hiring a manager

Or more likely that GMs don't see anything wrong wit hit.

Baker says the same goes for Adam Dunn, too.

"He doesn't have to tell me," Dunn said, according to the report. "I know I [need to be aggressive]. It's hard for me to swing at that first pitch. But that may be the best one I get."

Votto is getting the message, too. "I am an aggressive hitter," he said, according to the Enquirer. "It just took me a little bit of time, a few at-bats, to get comfortable up there. And it just takes me a little longer to get my timing down, to get my swing ready to go. I'm not one of the guys who can just pick up and hammer fastballs. It takes me a little while."

The circle of life. Now, several years will go by, and the best Reds prospects will either blow out their arms if pitchers, or disappoint as overaggressive hitters, so nobody can blame Dusty that the young guys didn't pan out because he didn't really have much to work with. Bad luck and bad players, dude.

that article is just begging to be on firejoemorgan.com

wow

It is! I just clicked over there after reading your reply. :)

EDIT: Apparently people were already talking about this in Rants.

Other than implying that Baker managed Moises Alou and Barry Bonds at the same time, that was an excellent article.

For fun they should do a reality show were Billy Beane is forced to have Dusty Baker be his manager for a season. The interviews throughout would be priceless.

I'm pretty sure Beane would shoot himself in the face by midseason.

Beane: Why was Cust batting 8th today?

Dusty: He doesn't run well. I didn't want him clogging bases.

Beane: What about his .417 OBP? He gets on to set up the heart of the order for RBI chances.

Dusty: Nah, dude, he's clogging the bases and won't go anywhere.

Beane: But he has an OBP over .400!

Dusty: Yeah, but who cares? He's only batting .251, which means that the dude can't hit. I don't want him batting near the top of the order. It's like the last time I went fishing...

[incoherent 10 minute long fishing analogy]

Dusty: You see dude, it's just like that.

Beane: Ok, sure, one sec...

Billy Beane has shot himself.

After failing to get down a bunt on three pitches, Encarnacion rocketed one into the left field seats for a three-run, walkoff home run.

Dusty Baker wanted it to happen this way -- really.

"You can't let him swing in that situation," Baker said. "He was struggling. I told (coach Chris Speier), 'I kind of hope he doesn't get it down so (he) can hit a three-run homer, and he hit a three-run homer."

"Being on the other side, he was one of the guys I didn't want to see up there in that situation," Baker said. "He's a clutch man."

How many times did he contradict himself there?

So why would you give the pitcher two strikes?

What's so confusing about it? I'm reading it as Dusty hoping EE would bunt for a three-run homer...

Some Cinci fan appears to have gotten creative.
