I miss these days..........................

All in all, the weekend was a success, by Dusty’s standards. They left 32 on base, swung at countless first pitches (especially with runners on base) and Dusty ran out a number of odd line-ups and eerie substitutions at inopportune times. The Reds offensive juggernaut managed 4 runs against a team that allowed 23 in their last three games.

Way to go Dusty.

Wow, you want to talk about looking for reasons to blame Dusty, that is just awful. Swung at countless first pitches? The Reds lead the majors in walks (or they were right up there when the day started).

The Reds lack of hitting had zero to do with Dusty Baker. Zero. Keep grasping at straws though.

When you have a manager that preaches to swing at the first pitch and not to take walks, and your team (in that series) swings at the first pitch and doesn't draw any walks, it's not far fetched to blame the manager for it.

Yeah, it may take a little time, but I assure you that Dusty's not happy with all those walks.

"You can't walk across home plate, you gotta hit across home plate"

that reds team is very patient, but dusty has only been on the job a short while.

a manager only has so much influence over the short-term upon his players individual habits. but i have no doubt hat you will see a decline in walks. swinging at first pitches i have no problem with, as long as his players aren't just trying to put the ball in play.

I never said that Dusty won't have an effect on the offense or that he will not make it worse, I'm just saying he hasn't yet and that was just looking for reasons to blame him.

Well, at least he's not making fun of 4-year-olds, so I guess homeristic, red kool-aid drinking posts is an improvement.

You are the one who keeps bringing it up, Vancey pooh. I'm pretty sure we've been told by mods to talk about it.

It was a joke, and I wasn't "making fun of 4 year olds" I was "making fun of however old you are." A distasteful one? Yes. One I shouldn't have made? Sure. Did I remotely mean anything I said? Of course not. Grow a pair and stop bringing it up. You need to stop talking stuff idiots (yes, I am an idiot) on a message board say so seriously.

Attack the post not the poster.

I'm excited for the moment when reds44 realizes what he's dealing with.

Now this is funny. This makes me laugh so hard. I can just see the face of some poor soul... looking so lost!

From today's FJM:

Fortunately for him, Reds manager Dusty Baker seems to be more patient with Encarnacion than previous manager Jerry Narron. "I'm happy for him because this guy bleeds internally, big-time," Baker said.

Of all the attributes of gritty players, "hemorrhaging" is rarely given its due. Especially internal hemorrhaging. Dudes who internally hemorrhage...man. Give me 8 guys like that, and a pitcher with anemia, and a couple bench guys with rotaviruses, and a closer with a leaky heart valve, and maybe a LOOGY with Polycythemia vera, and I'll win the division every time.

The way he has handled Edwin is so refreshing from what Narron did. He's handled the young pitchers well, in fact, he's handled all of the young guys very well.

Still a classic Dusty-ism, though.

yeah, he's done a great job of taking ABs away from votto, who's clearly the better player.

Hatteberg made his first start since April 10th today. Yeah, really taking ABs away.

Just bash him for his 9-14 record and stop reaching for other stuff.

Yeah, that was a bit of a reach. But don't fool yourself into thinking the Dustman will fair to young players even half the time. Give the man a viable option/excuse, and watch what happens. No reaching is necessary, he has done it consistently his entire career.

But even if he mends his ways, you can still look forward to some of the worse in game management in recent memory.

votto has 60 PAs in 20 games. either the reds have been getting perfect-gamed every time out, or someone's taking playing time away from him.

Do you guys remember when Cubs fans thought Dusty was a good manager for the first year or so of his tenure here? I do.

I don't know if it's more funny or sad to see Reds fans defend Dusty. They'll learn. Maybe not this year, but they'll learn.
