Do you guys remember when Cubs fans thought Dusty was a good manager for the first year or so of his tenure here? I do.

I don't know if it's more funny or sad to see Reds fans defend Dusty. They'll learn. Maybe not this year, but they'll learn.

And the Cubs had a good record in Dusty's first year; that's something the Reds won't achieve this season.

Is Corey Patterson still leading off?

The way he has handled Edwin is so refreshing from what Narron did. He's handled the young pitchers well, in fact, he's handled all of the young guys very well.

yeah, he's done a great job of taking ABs away from votto, who's clearly the better player.

Hatteberg made his first start since April 10th today. Yeah, really taking ABs away.

Just bash him for his 9-14 record and stop reaching for other stuff.

Yeah, that was a bit of a reach. But don't fool yourself into thinking the Dustman will fair to young players even half the time. Give the man a viable option/excuse, and watch what happens. No reaching is necessary, he has done it consistently his entire career.

But even if he mends his ways, you can still look forward to some of the worse in game management in recent memory.

to be fair, you couldn't have "in game managed" any worse than Lou did in Game 1 vs. the Rockies a few days ago

Remember when Dusty told Votto before the season started that he needed to "be more aggressive"? Well I think it's worth noting that Votto now has 1 walk in 66 at-bats this season. Yes he's is raking, but this would still be a bit of a disturbing development if I was a Reds fan, considerig Votto took a ton of walks in his minor league career.

True, but Dusty does it consistently.

I see Dusty had Jerry Hairston Jr batting leadoff today. Although he is batting .364 so I guess it is called riding the hot hand or whatever.

One of my favorites is when Baker was asked where Farnsworth had disappeared to (I think it was fairly soon after the Wilson beatdown), and he responded by saying "I didn't disappear him, he disappeared himself, right?"

Anybody see the Reds bat out of order yesterday? Dusty had doubleswitched himself into confusion. He said he'd only seen that as a player, but I swear I think I remember him doing that while managing the Cubs. Maybe it was the interim guy that did it though.

No, that was Dusty. He doesn't want to admit he's pulled that boneheaded maneuver off twice.

Well, that's what I thought. Sportscenter quoted him as saying he'd only seen that happen when he was a player.

Wonder if he'll get called on that anywhere but here?

I'd like to see Baker take the responsibility for once. I'm surprised the players haven't called him out when he says things like this.

Remember when the Cubs were so bad at fundamentals when he was here and he kept saying his teams didn't play that way and blamed it on the Cubs players not learning it in the minor leagues?

Yes. I remember lots of things like that. I also take responsibility as a fan for not accepting he was bad until after the '04 season.

I liked this little fantasy note on Adam Dunn from Yahoo-

May 12 Dunn dropped to seventh in the Reds' order on Monday, going 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly.

Recommendation: Dunn entered Monday's game hitting just .214, but with a .362 OBP. Meanwhile, Corey Patterson and his .252 OBP were firmly ensconced in the leadoff spot.

That was classic Dusty.

Reds win tonight on a Dunn walk off. After Dunn failed to get a sacrifice bunt down. This is twice that the Reds inability to get a bunt down has helped to overcome Dusty's braindead managing.

It's a Yusty.

Don't confuse the master and the apprentice. This is all master, so I'll call it a Dusty. Not to be confused as a Yost, who holds a degree from the Dusty Baker school of managing.

They're like the Sith; only a master and an apprentice. Never less, never more.
