Are people going to stop making fun of Eli now?

probably, which is too bad, because he's not good.

He's not?

23 TDs to 20 INTs and a QB rating in the low 70s says he's not.

Granted, his numbers aren't great, but having a team that led the league in drops doesn't help.

and to be fair to manning, whom i don't like at all, he looked like a completely different qb in the last 5 or 6 games. We'll see if the transformation carries over to next year (for my sake, I hope not.)

A hot streak doesn't make him good. Grossman had like a 98 QB rating thru week 8 last year. I like to compare him to Grossman, because Eli's numbers this year are remarkably similar to Rex's last year.

Rank in QB rating the last 4 years (among eligible QBs):

2007: 25th of 33

2006: 18th of 32

2005: 23rd of 34

2004: not eligible, but had a worse rating than every eligible QB in the league.

So yeah, he's not good.

The play where he evaded the entire defensive line and then connected with Tyree was amazing. The best I have ever witnessed in light of the circumstances.

Eli Manning probably made his bones just by getting to this game, but I think his performance deserves to be mentioned along with the greatest in SB history. He was better in this game than Brady was against the Rams in his first SB.

oh good Lord. i hope this doesn't become a popular sentiment. i might seriously go crazy if that happens.

Do you think that Eli's supporting cast - including defense - is better than what Rex had with last year's Bears? The defense is not. The running game is a wash at best, IMO. The Giant's O-Line might be better in pass protection. Plaxico is better than what the Bears has at WR. It's pretty close.

It is sort of funny Re:Tiki Barber too.

Bradshaw just said that the last drive Eli had was the things that legends are built around and that he was incredible.

Truffle already summarized that last drive pretty well.

It's also funny with Shockey being in a luxury box for the game.

I wonder how Shula, Griese, Csonka, etc are celebrating this one.

Then you had better get your prozac ready.

Your bias blinds you. Does Eli owe you money?

A Roman orgy but instead of plates full of grapes there are plates full of blue pills.

i'll give eli manning this, him avoiding that sack againt about 7 patriots and throwing it for 40 yards was the biggest 'holy s***" moment i've see in super bowl history. that'll be a super bowl memory to last.

Can you just say "I hate Eli Manning" and leave it at that?

i don't really hate eli manning. i hate some guys on the giants, and i hate the giants as a team, but i don't hate manning. i just know that he's not that good.

and yeah, the eli had a better supporting cast than grossman did last year. the giants have:

-a pro bowl caliber receiver

-a pro bowl caliber TE

-running backs are a wash

-better offensive line, especially in pass protection

-a competent offensive coordinator

the worst part of this game, i think we can all agree, is that mercury morris and all those douchebags from the '72 dolphins are going to be all over the airwaves for the next two weeks, and we'll probably be hearing from them every year until they kick the bucket.

That we can agree on.

Or against Carolina in his second for that matter. No one remembers how Brady threw a key INT when his team was about to clinch the game, which the Panthers quickly turned into a lead.

Grossman actually made the Bears offense look more than competent for a while in 2006 with the loads of talent he had around him.

Brady also should have blown the game against the Chargers last year. Nobody is saying he's perfect, though.

are you kidding? here's a list of QBs that played as well, or better, in the super bowl. I'll only go back a few years...

Peyton Manning, 2007

Tom Brady, 2005

Tom Brady, 2004 (Brady was 32/48, 356 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT - i'm not sure how you can say Manning was better than this)

Jake Delhomme, 2004

Brad Johnson, 2003

Kurt Warner, 2000

John Elway, 1999

Brett Favre, 1998

Brett Favre, 1997

OK, it's easy to say that "the catch" was just luck, but watching it again on replays, a TON of credit for that play has to go to Eli. He evaded the sack and THEN absolutely rifled that ball down the field. People often talk about how Eli has a stronger arm than Peyton...that's no lie. Now accuracy.... :-)

What's your point?

The majority of those guys are HOF QB's.

Here's the kicker...you don't have to HEAR them. Either mute them, or change the channel, like I will. But I SUPPOSED Mike and Mike will either having Don Shula and/or Mercury Morris on their show tomorrow morning, to which I will be......zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

*Sigh*

OK, you are going to tell me those performances were more impressive in light of the circumstances? You are aware that the Pats came into the game undefeated, right? You do know that Manning was maligned all season long and hounded by the NY media?

Just admit you are a hater and move on, dude. There's no shame in that.

BTW, you completely ignored the Bears' 2006 defense in comparing Manning to Grossman.

To me, the jury is still out on Eli. He may be turning the corner on becoming a good QB. Or he could be among the long line of QB's that happen to win Super Bowls without being anything great.

Eli's numbers in the Super Bowl: 19/34 255yds 2 TD 1 INT.

Brad Johnson's numbers in his Super Bowl victory were very similar: 18/34 215yds 2 TD 1 INT.

Johnson isn't a bad QB, but he wasn't anything great either. Eli is going to have to prove that this was a maturation in his game. It will make him some more cash, certainly. It may even be a turning point. Next season will tell if it is.

That was a great game. Incredible play by Eli on that last drive.

And I like Joe Buck calling football games. Baseball, not so much.
