I hate the Patriots more than most people, but I don't know if I can get too upset about Belichek leaving the field. Most everyone thought that time had expired, so he shook hands with Coughlin and that was that. I guess technically he should've stayed on the sideline and waited five minutes for everyone to restore order so that the Giants could snap the football one last time, but was it really necessary? The guy just lost the Super Bowl, he shook hands with the opponent. What more was there for him to do? Watch Eli Manning say "hike" and put his knee on the ground? I don't think it's too big of a deal that he walked off. And for all we know, he could've just thought that the game was officially over.

Someone please convince me otherwise, I don't feel right sticking up for him or the team.

He definitely couldn't have been confused. As he walked out to shake Coughlin's hand, Mike Carey stood in front of him - stopping him - and told him the game wasn't over yet.

At that point, Belichick either said screw you to Carey or just ignored him. Either way it shows a lack of class. There's no excuse for the Pats to not show a little respect (for the first time ever) and stay on the field for one more second.

I disagree and see Mizzou's point. He obvioulsy thought the gmae was over, and by the time he made it all the way across the field, why turn around? just shake the mans hand let the game be over.

He had to go back to the locker room and destroy the tapes of the Giants. Coughlin outsmarted him and switched them with the Marx Brothers and 3 Stooges football videos.

Sadly, he knows much like many others that Goodell won't come down hard on the Pats. He only stripped their first round pick because they had another. If push comes to shove, Goodell and the NFL won't have what it takes to severly punish the media darling and cash cow that is the current New England Patriots.

The coach has to be the leader of his team. What if his team decided to follow his example and walk off the field? Then the Patriots would have forfeited the game. Instead, Belichick decided to abandon his 11 players that were on the field. Even if it's for one meaningless snap, your leader shouldn't bail until everybody else is ready to go.

He had to cross over his sidelines anyway. What's the trouble to stop there for a second and show a little respect to the team that gave you a great game once and cleanly beat you on the second try? Sure it hurts to lose the game, but 41 other teams have lost the Super Bowl and shown a little respect. No reason for Belichick to think he's better than them.

i was half way hoping that only 2 Patriots would be on the field for the final snap and that the Giants would score another TD

wait a second, did Bellichek leave the field before the final snap? I didnt think he did. If that was the case, that woud be classless. It hought all the humbugh was about him shaking hands before the game was over.

and, even if it was classless, so what? this has been the MO of the guy since day one, and his players dont seem to be too bothered by it

Yeah, Belichick was already a good ways up the tunnel before the final snap was made. That's what people were upset about it.

And yup, it's just another thing to add on the long list of Belichick's classless behavior. It just makes it even harder for people who aren't fans of the Patriots to root for them in any game.

I don't think they fielded a full 11 guys on that last play. I haven't seen replays before the snap but I'd be willing to bet it's closer to eight than 11.

Exactly, it doesn't change my opinion at all of the man - I've considered him classless for quite some time now.

What it should do (but I doubt it will), is once and for all end this ridiculous crap about the Patriots being a "classy and professional" organization. The media obsesses over how "unselfish, professional and utterly classy" the Pats are and this just further proves how much of a crock that is.

I've always thought of Belichek as classless too, but to me that just looked like a bunch of people thought the game was over when it wasn't. It's not like Belichek was the only one to come out. There was obviously a mistake. I think it's a bit of an overreaction to just heap all the blame for it on him. Someone let the clock go down to 0:00 when it shouldn't have.

I've got no problem with Belichick running out on the field to shake hands. Coughlin and the Giants did too. Problem is, the head referee Mike Carey went to the coaches and told them the game wasn't over and to get back to the sideline.

Coughlin did and Belichick didn't. There was confusion at first, but once it was sorted out Belichick should have stayed on the field for one more play. The fact that he didn't shows how little respect he has for other teams.

Maybe Bill knew there is a rule that says "If you don't play the whole game and leave before the clock hits zero, you can protest the game and you go back to the 2 minute warning".

I think it shows that Belichek never even considered he might lose, and so when he did he couldn't think straight and wanted to just go and curl up somewhere. Of course, respecting the other team is never in his repertoire so that comes through at a time like that too.

I do agree -- it's clear to me Belichek is self-absorbed and classless. I think there's a pretty large body of work that goes towards that.

Yeah, this was just a perfect picture of who Belichick and the Patriots are. Self absorbed, proud, and utterly egotistical. The exact opposite of what the media protrays them to be.

wait so now we are talking about how bill belichick is an a-hole? i thought it was silly to talk about the performance of the giants defense because everyone knew they were really good (even though they gave up 38 points to the pats the first time they played them), but let's all talk about how much of a dick bill belichick is? i think most patriots fans, as well as his kids and parents probably, know that he's a prick.

This game furthered the thought that Brady can get flustered if he starts getting hit. Seems like an obvious thought, but some folks can handle it better than others. I don't think Brady can handle it very well.

So what the heck DO you want us to talk about? Can't talk about Eli being good, because he's not. Can't talk about the Giants D being good, because they were only good last night. Can't talk about Belidick being a dick, because everyone knows this already.

Perhaps we should talk about Jeff Feagles?

I thought it was pretty clear his ankle was bothering him too. He didn't play very well at all. Even on the final drive he made a couple of mistakes that I'm not used to seeing him make.

ANY QB gets rattled when he gets hit repeatedly, some to lesser extents

uh yeah we can. they gave up 38 points to new england the first time, and 14 the second time. what'd they do different? why'd the patriots struggle more to pass protect last night than in any other game this year? why'd belichick go for it on 4th and 18, but not go for it on a couple of 4th and shorts? i can think of 100 more topics more interesting than "bill belichick is a dick," which will result in 50 different people saying "i agree, what a baby" or "i'm glad he lost, he has no class" and nobody disagreeing with the sentiment.

if you dont want to discuss it, then why reply?

as for Bellichek's game-calling, does anyone else think it could be a result of his own arrogance? Trying to prove he could win w/o cheating?

wait so now we are talking about how bill belichick is an a-hole? i thought it was silly to talk about the performance of the giants defense because everyone knew they were really good (even though they gave up 38 points to the pats the first time they played them), but let's all talk about how much of a dick bill belichick is? i think most patriots fans, as well as his kids and parents probably, know that he's a prick.

So what the heck DO you want us to talk about? Can't talk about Eli being good, because he's not. Can't talk about the Giants D being good, because they were only good last night. Can't talk about Belidick being a dick, because everyone knows this already.

Perhaps we should talk about Jeff Feagles?

Brandon Jacobs, plz.
