the worst part of this game, i think we can all agree, is that mercury morris and all those douchebags from the '72 dolphins are going to be all over the airwaves for the next two weeks, and we'll probably be hearing from them every year until they kick the bucket.

Here's the kicker...you don't have to HEAR them. Either mute them, or change the channel, like I will. But I SUPPOSED Mike and Mike will either having Don Shula and/or Mercury Morris on their show tomorrow morning, to which I will be......zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

hence the reason i won't be turning on espn or sports talk radio for the next two weeks. but you're still going to hear from them next year. and the year after that. and the year after that...

Can you just say "I hate Eli Manning" and leave it at that?

i don't really hate eli manning. i hate some guys on the giants, and i hate the giants as a team, but i don't hate manning. i just know that he's not that good.

Mercury Morris: "When this kid (Burress) scored, a tear came to my eye. I'm very humbled at what the New York Giants were able to do...so realize that on any given Sunday, anyone can beat anyone, except in 1972"

Just great. It's too bad we can't pit that 72 team against the Dolphins of today and watch them get killed.

OK, you are going to tell me those performances were more impressive in light of the circumstances? You are aware that the Pats came into the game undefeated, right? You do know that Manning was maligned all season long and hounded by the NY media?

in light of the circumstances? the patriots' defense wasn't that great this year. they were very good, yes, but not great. and let's be honest, the reason the giants won the game was their defense, not eli manning. the giants scored 17 points, which most people before the game would've said would not be enough to win. the giants' defense, especially their front four, played great, and held the most prolific offense in the league to just two touchdowns. and manning should've been maligned by the NY media; he had a lower QB rating than 3/4 of the league.

BTW, you completely ignored the Bears' 2006 defense in comparing Manning to Grossman.

i'm sorry, i didn't realize that urlacher, vasher, harris and briggs were on the field at the same time as rex grossman.

What's your point?

The majority of those guys are HOF QB's.

I know, and if I went farther back I could talk about how guys like Mark Rypien, Phil Simms, Jim Plunkett and Doug Williams had better games in the Super Bowl. He played fine, not great, and I think he was pretty fortunate on a few of his throws, but let's not blow this game out of proportion.

yes and i didn't say that he couldn't improve, but for his first four years in the league, he has not been good.

if you go through a list of the top QBs in the history of the game, you'll find a total of zero quarterbacks who played as poorly as eli played in the first four years of his career. he could become a pretty good quarterback, but there's no parallel to him becoming a great QB.

and let's not blow his age 24 season out of proportion.

that's fine. he was a rookie and the team was pretty lousy. but how about this year, when he had a pretty good line and running game, and a top TE and WR. 25th out of 33 in passer rating. can't chalk that one up to having never played in the nfl.

His team dropped 40+ passes this season, most in the NFL.

and then he played very well in three straight road playoff games and won the super bowl. not too shabby.

Truffle, I don't understand you right now. No one is saying that Eli is a great QB (unless I missed it). But the guy just led his team to a Super Bowl title, beating a team who had dominated the league all year. And he led his team to three playoff wins over favored opponents prior to that... all on the road. Give the man some credit.

I personally don't like the guy, and never will, due to his pissy ass "I don't wanna go to San Diego" attitude. But you gotta give credit where credit is due.

To get completely apart from this current debate, my boss is the biggest Bostonian you will find. He purposefully has come to my desk to show off his Red Sox 2004 and 2007 gear. He has gone to great lengths to showcase why the Patriots were better than the 2006 Bears. he is in the midst of a Celtics experience. In essence, he is a douchebag.

I've never rooted for a New York team harder, and I am never going to enjoy going to work more than I will tomorrow. :D :D :D

Continue the whole Eli sucks thing. . .

right, and that's why i give credit to the giants' defense. they won the super bowl for that team.

just because a guy is the qb for a team that wins the super bowl doesn't mean that he "led" them there. he did play really well in a couple of games; he wasn't great against the packers, and he wasn't great tonight. he was fine. he didn't make many mistakes, which had been his achilles heel, but i can't look at those games and say "the giants won those games on the shoulders of eli manning." they averaged 21 points per game in the playoffs, hardly an overwhelming accomplishment. on the other hand, the defense went out and held the #1, #2 and #4 offenses (in terms of points scored) in the league to 17, 20 and 14 points.

all i'm saying is, i don't think eli led the giants to the super bowl much more than trent dilfer or brad johnson did.

WOW...Keyshawn said that he thinks Strahan is going to be a HOFer.

Duh.

wow be careful out on that limb keyshawn.

Next thing we know he's going to be saying crazy stuff like "I think Brett Favre might just make it to the HOF".

Bradshaw just said that the last drive Eli had was the things that legends are built around and that he was incredible.

vomit.

he overthrew burress on what should've been a big play down the sideline.

It was pretty clear on the replay that Burress completely stopped his route after Eli threw the ball. It was simple miscomunication between them - something that happened to Brady multiple times tonight.

that pass down the right side was a few inches from being picked off.

Again, it was pretty clear from Eli's reaction that the receiver ran the wrong route. The receiver (Steve Smith I think) cut in on a hook instead of continuing the go route. Again, not Eli's fault (completely at least).

the wounded duck to tyree was an awful pass that happened to settle into the right place.

Yeah, the wounded duck Eli threw after fighting through what should have been a sack a few times. And, after he evaded multiple Pats, he threw a rifle that Tyree snagged on his helmet. Was it the greatest throw? No, but it got to the receiver and was highly unlikely to be picked.

i think he threw another ball high down the middle early in the drive that was dangerous.

He did and I'll give you this one. It wasn't a great decision, but then again, nobody was open. So yeah, one bad decision on a final drive that resulted in a Super Bowl winning touchdown. I'd say most any NFL fan will take that from their QB.

Eli didn't have a ton asked from him, but that's not the Giant offense. He made no real mistakes (the pick was Steve Smith's fault) and made the throws when they needed to be made.

He's definitely not Peyton or Brady level, but like others have said, next season will truly tell us if he's turned the corner or if the final five weeks were an aberration.
