Mod edit:

The following url will open up the VWR at 9:30 AM Central Friday morning:

http://frontline.purchasenow3.tickets.com/buy/MLBEventInfo?orgid=5&agency=MLB&trxstate=8

You can open as many windows and/or tabs as your computer can handle. All you will have to do is paste the URL into each window/tab. If you are using Firefox, I recommend downloading and configuring Tab Mix Plus to be able to keep as many tabs visible as you wish, as well as configure their width. Once Tab Mix Plus is installed, go to tools --> tab mix plus options --> display --> "Tab Bar" tab. Here, adjust the "when tabs don't fit width" option to "multi-row" and increase the maximum number of rows to whatever you desire. It's okay if the tabs take up most of the screen since if you get through in one, you can go back to the options and decrease the number of rows until your transaction is complete.

It is also recommended that you create a cubs.com account beforehand and make sure your billing information is stored. You will have to re-enter your credit card info each time and confirm your email address, but the rest of the information should be pre-filled.

Any other tips will be edited in here, as well, although check the entire thread for updates from other members.

Q: Little help here guys/gals with Firefox.

I open a new tab, but its blank. How can I open the same tab over and over again without copying the URL? The tab says (Untitled).

A: Open up the URL into one tab and just hit control+alternate+T. You can do it before 9:30 and use the "reload all tabs" function of tab mix plus, as well. It'll take up a lot of memory to begin with since they'll be loading at the same time, but they'll begin to stagger out a bit pretty quickly.

Q: The VWR automatically switches into ticketing if you are selected right?

If so, what does the tab title generally change to?

A: The tab or window title will change from "Virtual Waiting Room" to "Chicago Cubs Ticketing." If you have a bunch of windows and/or tabs open, just look for the first letter to change from a "V" to a "C," although it will display http://frontline... while it's refreshing.

Q: Where is the "reload all tabs" option?

A: I don't think it's a standard feature of Firefox, but if you have Tab Mix Plus (or possibly in a different tab management plugin), just right-click on one of the tabs and that option will be available. If it isn't, go into Tab Mix Plus options --> menu --> Tab Context Menu --> and check reload all tabs. I'm not sure if I have an older version or not, though, but it should be pretty similar.

Also, you can decide use the "protect tab" feature to remove the close tab button on the tab. The yellow icon it places on the tab may also make it easier to keep track of which tab you're working on in case you go to a different window.

The other thing is that like always, be prepared to have to hit refresh a lot to resubmit your ticket request once you get through. It can take a while to actually get tickets, but last year they seemed to dedicate a lot more bandwidth towards processing orders once tickets are reserved, so losing an order shouldn't be a big problem unless you take too long to enter in your information.

And again, double check your cubs.com login information and wallet preferences.

Q: Also if half my window is taken up with tabs, and one gets through, how do I maximize that screen so I don't have half my screen taken up with tabs?

A: The best option would be to go back into the Tab Mix Plus options and reduce the number of visible rows back down to something more manageable until you complete the order. Or, if you want, you can protect the tab you get through in (just to be sure) and then right-click on the tab and pick the "close other tabs" option. That will close all of the other tabs, but I'd be a little worried about making a mistake at that point.

I think I posed this question in another thread a day or two ago, but I don't recall where exactly. Anyways, I've been trying to figure out when regular season tickets go on sale but haven't had any success. Anyone know?

It should be February 22nd this year, as it has been the Friday of that week for a while now. However, they won't officially release the on-sale information until early February. If I recall correctly, it was February 6th last year when they issued the press release.

I already scheduled the day off from work for the 22nd.

Jon, not sure if it will matter, but the Cubs opening at home this year instead of on the road may affect things. They may want that week back and sell a week earlier.

True, they would have to take that into consideration. I don't believe they've opened the season since 2001, which was before they moved to Tickets.com. However, it only means that they'd have to get tickets out a half-week earlier. And they have to coordinate the date with Tickets.com to make sure they have "enough" dedicated bandwidth for their on-sale.

I know that they don't start Will Call pickup until mid-March, but hopefully it doesn't change things too much. I will not be happy if it isn't 2/22.

Thanks. I blame Garwilly for unnecessarily making me start to worry a bit.

Last year I didn't have to leave for work until 11 AM, so I had a successful hour of ticket buying before that. But this year I won't be in a rush. I figure I may pick up a cheap router and borrow a crappy laptop to see how many windows I can have open. I figure I should be able to easily get over 500, although I need to check to see how much memory a Firefox window with 40 or 50 tabs takes up.

Any recommendations on where to sit? Maybe a top 3 places incase I can't get my first choice?

My only advice: don't sit in the 200s unless you can get the boxes or the sections out on the ends (201-203, 239-241)

Not that much. I had an easy 600 windows open last year on a middle of the road laptop. 18 firefox windows with 34 tabs apiece or something like that

This sucks. I travel for work about once or twice per year on average and I think this will be the 3rd year out of the last 4 that I have been out of town the day Cubs tickets go on sale...

That's what it seemed like the last year or two, but I've been convinced that I do better with IE windows, so I've usually just loaded up with IE6, which isn't the best memory efficient plan.

I'm trying to decide whether to take off or not. If I take-off, I'll have more time, but in the past the computers at school have been more successful than the ones at home. But I teach in a different room (without a computer) beginning at 11:15, so my time to work the computers would be limited to the first hour if I go to work.

Can you or anyone else elaborate? Can't seem to remember any issues in the 200s.

Also, can anyone provide the link to the site to view Wrigley seats? Thank you.

200s are the worst seats in the park. Beyond the obstruction from the poles supporting the upper deck, they're set far back and you don't really feel very close to the action. 500 levels are better

Terrace Box aren't bad (in the first few sections of the 200's before the poles and other obstruction). I'd advise you not to sit in Terrace Reserved. You won't be able to see the sky and likely the scoreboard, and depending on where a pole is situated other parts of the field won't be visable as well.

Furthermore, because these seats are in the "lower level" they will be more expensive than UD Box seats. UD Boxes are easily one of the biggest bargins and one of Wrigley's biggest secrets. Because of the age of the field, the UD was built well before modern ballparks decided that overhangs were a bad idea and instead built outward. Therefore the Upper Deck pretty much hags right over the field. You have to really sit there to understand how nice it is. You can see the whole field, look at the lake and skyline as well, and pay less than if you sat in Terrace Reserved and barely see the field.

UD Reserved IMO is better than Terrace Reserved as well. You do sit farther back, but like I said before, because of the age of the UD, it is not built outward like other parks, so you are still sitting very close to the field. There are poles to obstruct you, but they aren't as bad as Terrace Reserved, and the roof is built much higher, meaning you will be able to actually see the sky, the scoreboard, the crowd, the rooftops, etc.

I'm almost positive UD Box are more expensive than Terrace Reserved. I think they cost more than Terrace Box too. Still the better choice by far.

So your right. Well if you are only going to one game at Wrigley this year, go for UD Box over TR any day

Posted
Yeah. They really jacked up the prices for UD Box seats over the last few years. Personally, I just go for either UD Reserved or bleachers. And if you do it on the day tickets go on sale, you can usually get good UD Reserved seats while everyone else is pulling up worse Terrace Reserved.

Yup, especially watch out for this if you are trying to buy from scalpers. They pray on people who don't know the ballpark very well and try to sell you "lowers" (Terrace Reserved) for ridiculous prices.

I always sit in bleachers, except for the Fathers Day game. My thoughts: I actually like the 200s, but you have to be very careful. You need to be in the first few rows to not have to deal with the pole (depends on the section). If I'm not in the bleachers I try to be as close to behind homeplate as possible, so sometimes thats in the 200s. Of non-bleachers though 419-422 are the best IMO. Although, they are definitely (other than 100 level) the hardest to get as many of them are season ticket holders and there are less seats in those sections.

Seats I DO NOT recommend are roughly sections 528-538 when the sun will be setting during the game. You will be absolutely blinded.

Additionally, a lot of times you can buy single tickets for the rooftops for $75 or so. THATS the best deal in Wrigley...all you can eat, all you can drink, and hey, a baseball game will be going on too!

Really though, any ticket is a pretty good ticket in or around Wrigley.

So is this the best way to buy tickets the day they go one sale? Just wondering because the last couple of years I have had no luck at all getting in on the good game tickets (IE Cubs/White Sox, Cubs/Cards). Just have as many windows open to the waiting room as my system will allow?

Another question, does the system pick people at random or is there basically a virtual line, meaning who ever lined up first in the virtual waiting room gets first dibs when they go on sale?

Oh and looks like you guys use FireFox instead of IE. Is there a specific reason Firefox besides the typical "its better then IE"?

Thanks guys, all the info will help. I have ended up buying scalpers price tickets for games the last three years and honestly won't be able to do it this year. We have a new baby girl, she will be 8-12 months old when she goes to her first Cubs game. So I definitely need to pay face value :)

It's random when they pull you out of the virtual waiting room. Cubs/Sox tickets are particularly rough. If you get in for them or Cards games do best available, if you pick a specific section, you can wind up getting booted back out after choosing a section that winds up oversold.
