I really don't want Nathan. On one hand, he'd be great for 2009 with Howry, Dempster, Eyre and possibly Wood off the books. On the other, he's not a position of need this year and it would take a crapload to trade for him.

Wont he be a FA after this season?

Yes he will. So you could make the same argument with Santana in that you're not going to trade too much value as you can get him as an FA the following year.

I agree that he's not a need, but man that would be a great bullpen.

But then the argument would diverge into it being really smart to give a great starting pitcher big money and not really smart to go out and spend huge on free agent closers.

Yes, yes, yes the Cubs should go after him. He is a fantastic closer and how fun...Twins got him for AJ!

And now I get to be a girl here (since I am)...cannot have too many players who are easy on the eyes. :D Don't worry fellas because that part is just the icing on the cake for a lady such as myself. Player can be butt ugly in my book as long as he is a good player. Sorry guys but I could put together my own all cute team that would kick butt...or at least some of them would have in years past.

Yeah, suppose I threw all credibility out the window there but in the past, there have been certain players I have wanted on this team and the ones the Cubs have picked up have performed.

That's my most important requirement in any and all Cub acquisitions. Someone get Hendry on the phone. :D

Losing Barrett must have hurt the ladies and Hendry has to make up for it!

Not in my book...I am still harping on the fact that they traded Damien Miller for Barrett. Barrett was not a good catcher.

I know I am going to take some hits for that comment but it's cool. I can take it. Like I said, if they aren't a good player, doesn't matter if they are easy on the eyes.

Good thing you are not the GM then :)

Would Pie for Nathan get it done?

We could have a Soriano, Fukudome, Murton outfield in that scenario.

I can't imagine Pie alone would do it--for someone as good as Nathan, they're not going to trade for just potential. I could see DeRosa and Murton potentially working.

Along with a top pitching prospect.

At least we'd have Grady Sizemore on the team.

Sadly, being good looking is almost as useful as some of the other metrics that Hendry uses on a regular basis.

Handsome: it's the new grittiness

I had the score on this afternoon and Offman said the Cubs asked about Nathan and the Twins asked for Marmol. He didn't say if the Cubs were considering it, but that is probably because he is George Offman and he has no sources anyway.
