FWIW, if the Cubs get Roberts. I would go:

Roberts

Lee

Fukudome

Ramirez

Soriano.

I think Lee will probably get on base slightly more than KFuk, and KFuk will hit for a little more power. Plus, it breaks up the RHs, which every manager seems to care about way too much.

I pray your wrong. Most projections I have seen for KFuk have him hitting 20 homers with 25 being the high end. DLee's power seemed to come back the second half of last year so hopefully he return to being a 30-35 homer threat. Also Dlee looks like he'll have a better lineup around than he's ever had in a cubs uniform.

Power is more than HRs. If you look at Fukudome's PECOTA projections (.289/.401/.504 ), probably a little high across the board. But that's an ISOP of .215. Even with Derrek's power surge in the 2nd half, he finished at .195, thanks to a big September with the power.

FWIW, I think Fukudome will hit much more than 10-15 HRs. I could see him easily hitting 20-25 pretty consistently. I believe LH power hitters can thrive in Wrigley in the HR department, because the wind typically blows to aid balls down the RF corner. Corey Patterson, Mark Bellhorn, Henry Rodriguez, and Rick Wilkins all hit for more power in Chicago than they did in the rest of the world. Jacque Jones and Fred McGriff posted power numbers they hadn't touched in about 6-8 years.

Jones in 2007 says hi. I agree with what you are saying however.

Couple that in with the fact that the NL Central has the best hitter's parks in baseball, and I can definitely see 20+

Or Burnitz for that matter. I remember hearing that Wrigley didn't usually have any homerun benefit for lefties, but I can't recall where I heard that and I can't find homerun park factors that break down according to platoon splits. I wouldn't take it on faith that Wrigley is a great environment for lefties without checking up on that first.

The problem is that the Cubs haven't had many good power lefty hitters to make decent comparisons.

Fukudome should get the Cubs another Rookie of the Year award.

Geovany Soto

(Couldn't resist)

Between the two of them, though, we have a decent shot at one.

Maybe I've missed it but not once on ESPN have I heard them mention that Fukedome was signed by the Cubs. Granted, I only watch Mike & Mike but I'm sure if the Red Sox or Yanks signed him it would have been mentioned a few times to say the least.

i have also been surprised by the lack of national coverage. especially considering there isn't too much going on right now.

obviously if the bidding was between the red sox and yankees as opposed to the cubs and padres, it'd be different.

It wasn't even in our paper here.

I watched Mike and Mike the next Morning and they never even touched on it. Pretty surprising.

PTI touched on it, but they just ripped on him for being stupid enough to sign with the Cubs.

It was never in their breaking news box on espnnews, as that was filled with Petrino news and then a mitchell report promo at least 15 hours in advance. They did have the Prior news in that box for a short time.

But it's definitely true that the lack of coverage is clearly affected by the fact that Boston and the Yankees were not involved. Had the Cubs beat either of those two teams, it would be newsworthy.

David, I'm curious to know what percentage of your 5800 posts have been Geovany Soto? Maybe we can get Meph to do some calculations for us. :D
