Funny how the BCS works out. The voters hand select LSU to play OSU in the title game, jumping Missouri, West Virginia, Georgia and Kansas, all who have 2 losses or less and look what happens.

Missouri destroys Alabama

West Virginia destroys Oklahoma

Georgia destroys Hawaii

Kansas (1 loss) beats Virginia Tech

Also for good measure, 2 loss USC who was 1 spot behind LSU in the second to last poll, Destroyed Illinois

Now obviously you can make a good case that all 5 of those teams didn't deserve it over LSU (Missouri lost to OU twice, WV lost to Pitt in the last week, Georgia didn't even goto the SEC title game, Kansas didn't goto the Big 12 title game) but its still interesting.

Georgia was maybe the hottest team heading into the last month of the season. Missouri simply didn't match up well with OU. Kansas had never been there before. USC can beat anyone in the nation, but the loss to Stanford was more embarrasing than WV losing to Pitt.

I'm so glad we won this game. Really legitimizes this season.

My observations:

We didn't play our best but still won. That says a lot.

We're still a few legit lineman (on both sides) from being great.

I agree with the idea that Talib won't cut it at CB in the NFL unless he learns to gamble less. But he's a very good tackler, despite what someone said, and he's fast and big. He can make it at CB if he tightens his game. Otherwise, he'll be a good safety

i'm glad Scott Webb (FG kicker) is graduating.

V Tech had the best defense we've played, but overall Mizzou was easily a better team than them.

The announcers kept saying ST won the game for us. I thought we broke even on ST (FG kick blocked, fake punt for us, TD and big returns for them). It was the D that won it.

Aqib felt Deion on that play! Like Deion!

eh, that was me on the poor tackling. again, ive only watched him against mizzou twice, and he probably missed a few tackles so that's where i got that from. usually notice the bigger plays over the fundamental plays anyways, like a missed tackle for a big gain rather than a couple of plays where he makes the tackle (if that sentence makes any sense at all). anyways congrats on the win.

Normally he's a pretty solid tackler, especially for corner.

All the best corners are gamblers but I think Talib gambles too much for the NFL. Fun game to watch.

I hope that wasn't the reason why we were left out. I hope it was because of our weak resume and inability to get to even the Big XII champ game.

Long but interesting read on the pros and cons of a playoff or plus-one.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/the_bonus/01/02/bcs.future/index.html

While the 2007 college football season will conclude with Monday night's BCS National Championship Game between Ohio State and LSU, a different sort of season is about to commence -- one that will take place in conference offices, network suites and hotel board rooms.

"The season for analysis and consideration [of the BCS' future] will take place now through the summer," said BCS coordinator Mike Slive.

The BCS' four-year contract with Fox is in its second year. (ABC's exclusive deal with the Rose Bowl extends an additional four years). The conference commissioners and bowl executives who oversee the BCS will soon hold potentially historic discussions about the possibility of adding a so-called plus-one game -- in which the BCS bowls would serve as a play-in to the national championship game -- starting with the 2010 season.

But as is often the case when it comes to college football's convoluted governance, the conflicting agendas of the various parties will make for a potentially contentious debate over any possible changes to the BCS.

In multiple discussions with Slive for this story, as well as interviews with commissioners, bowl and TV executives across the sport, it's apparent that interest in the plus-one has become far more serious than at any point previously. When BCS officials convene in Miami in April for their annual meetings, Slive -- who has the support of ACC commissioner and incoming coordinator John Swofford -- will present several plus-one options to his colleagues.

"We are in the midst of doing a very careful and thorough analysis of the plus-one model," Slive told SI.com. "In doing this analysis, we're looking back on historical data and then thinking ahead to what we know. We need to put together a model that is one that some people will be comfortable with, and see if there is acceptance to it."

LSU beat them pretty bad too.

The Cotton Bowl is also looking to get added to the BCS rotation. They are timing it around the same time the Cowboy's open their new stadium, so this all could wrap in pretty well.

With that new stadium, I don't see how they will bypass the Cotton Bowl. The new Cowboys stadium is going to be the best sporting venue ever.

agreed 100%, at least for a couple of years.

Yeah, it's just a shame the Cowboys will be playing there and not a likable team.

body: To show the rest of the world you don't mess with the SEC!!!It'll be closer than the Florida game last year because Les Miles sucks as a coach and he will probably make more horrible decisions tonight. But, Ohio State gets spanked again based solely on talent. It's a good thing Les is coaching this game cause a good coach might put 50 up on the Buckeyes. 30-13

what the hell is it with sec fans? do they really think the conference is that far ahead of other major conferences? i already know the answer since i live in sec country, so i'll answer it for you...yes, yes they do..i know this guy pretty well, i worked with him for about 2 years and believe me when i say he doesn't know anything about college football outside of alabama...he doesn't even know what's going on inside the sec...i guess it's "fans" like him that ruin it for all the other sec fans, but damn, don't buy into the hype...the sec isn't that much better....i will admit, it's the toughest conference right now, but those things change year in and year out.

I went to college in SEC country, and I remember one year talking about how there were a lot of good games on that weekend to a guy who had grown up in Georgia. He asked "what games?" I said a few games, like Texas-Oklahoma, Oregon-USC, etc. He looked at me strangely and said "Oh. I thought you meant games between real teams."

Now, that's an extreme example, but I ran into that type of thinking over and over again.

it's not that extreme...people will smile slyly and chuckle at times when i have a big ten or big 12 game on at the golf course...as if the outcome doesn't matter in their perfect football world....they act as if any sec team would crush any other major conference foe, which clearly isn't the case.

i'm just sick of hearing the b.s. and then getting laughed at when bringing up other teams from other conferences when it's pretty clear the person you're talking to doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground....haha, i guess i'm getting pretty worked up over this but it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Raise your hand if you don't give two flying turds about tonight's game and probably wont even watch.

*raises hand*

I'll probably clear out the remaining Monk episodes on my DVR instead of watching the game.

Go Ohio State.

Ew.

Agreed. I dont like rooting for Ohio State, but it sure as hell beats rooting for an SEC team to beat a Big 10 team.

Last college football game for nearly 8 months, sure I'll be watching.
