i'm not convinced that wrigley23 is the equivalent of an AIM bot. it's just a computer program that occasionally posts something without regard to the rest of the posts

That reminds me of the really old Yahoo/aol chat rooms...

why not put pie in #9, pitcher in #8. Pie will benefit from hitting in front of soriano, soriano will get more RBI opportunities

The whole point is he's a worse hitter with men on base. We should think of Soriano as a one-man lineup, all by himself, followed by the "real" lineup. With Theriot (or Roberts, if he happens to be a Cub), leading off:

1. Soriano

***********

##########

1A. Theriot

2A. Fukudome

3A. Lee

4A. Ramirez

5A. DeRosa

6A. Pie

7A. Soto

8A. Pitcher

I'll have to agree with seattlecub on this one. I actually told my brother this weekend that I thought that Pie should bat ninth so that he could be protected by Soriano, thereby putting minimal pressure on Pie to produce. Pie batting with Soriano behind him protects him from pitchers throwing crap that he might feel inclined to go after if the pitcher's spot was coming up next. Ideally, my play was to start with Roberts if we get him, then Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, Fukudome, DeRosa (I'd put him at SS), Geovany Soto, Pitcher and finally Pie.

I don't like having to put Fukudome's OBP back in the order but he's a guy who can protect the heart of the order and be patient enough to take what pitchers give him. Same thing with DeRosa in the next spot. Soto rounds out the lineup at 7 before the pitcher comes up. Anything we get from Soto will be a bonus anyway as far as I'm concerned. I think this lineup makes a ton of sense for the team we have to work with (if we got Roberts).

If we don't get Roberts:

Soriano

Fukudome

Lee

Ramirez

DeRosa

Soto

Theriot

Pie

Pitcher

The only problem I have with Fukudome batting 2nd is that we won't really have a number 5 hitter. I like Derosa but I don't really think he's an adequate number 5 hitter.

Man, this lineup would have looked so much better if we would have gone after Renteria.

Yeah, that lineup would be really top heavy.

With what we have right now, I think this is probably the best lineup.

Soriano

Derosa

Lee

Ramirez

Fukudome

Soto

Pie

Theriot

I don't really take too much stock in the l-r-l-r stuff. That said, I don't really like our lineup that much. We don't really have a great choice for the 2 hole without putting Fukudome there, and the back end up the lineup look really week.

I still think the lineup would have looked 10x better with Renteria.

Soriano

Renteria

Lee

Ramirez

Fukudome

Derosa

Soto

Pie

I think that lineup looks pretty good.

Hmm...if that's true (and that's hardly confirmation, considering it's 1) an insider who has been proven to be somewhat spotty with info and 2) says "may" and 3) doesn't say if he's speculating or from his source) then I would be ok I guess if the 4th player is not among the Cubs top 12 prospects or so. I just don't think Veal is going to be good, so sending him in a deal isn't all that bad for me.

That would also allow us to keep Murton and either use him as the 4th OF or then trade him to get a prospect back for the system.

I hate to give up Gallagher because I love his potential, but I think it's worth it for this deal. Especially now that DeRosa is going in for surgery, which although supposed to be a quick recovery, could become a very tricky situation very easily.

I'm not letting them have another top 10 prospect though along with Veal. That's personally where my line is drawn.

I can't totally disagree with that. I could flip-flop Fukudome and DeRosa. I just don't want Theriot near the top.

Me neither.

So, it looks like Gallagher, Ronny, E-Patt, and Veal. From Peace21 the O's want to look at Veal longer. FWIW Peace21 likes that trade, but hes not AM.

I really don't want to give up Gallagher, and it sucks if Cedeno goes because he's got a better chance at being decent than Theriot does, but I don't have any problem giving up EPatt and Veal. I'd probably be okay with that deal though. I'm guessing BRob will be a Cub by September.

Nope. September 2010 is when Neifi comes back to play SS.

I'm lukewarm on it. Gallagher still has some development left to do, but he could be an asset to this team if injury/sucktitude problems hit by mid-season. I don't like the way the Cubs are looking at SS coming into next season if they don't have Cedeno in there. E-Patt and Veal I won't feel too bad about seeing go.
