AM = MacPhail

PA = Angelos

 

AM: Peter, I think that we're going to send Bedard to Seattle and Roberts to the Cubs.

PA: The Cubs don't play in Seattle.

AM: No Peter, it's a 3 team deal. One player goes to the Mariners, and the other goes to the Cubs.

PA: That's only 2 teams.

AM: We're the third team.

PA: So what do we get?

AM: Jones, Sherrill, 3 prospects from Seattle and Gallagher, Murton, Colvin from the Cubs.

PA: If the Cubs have Roberts, maybe they could include him in the deal...I really like that fellow.

AM: But we're sending him to the Cubs...why would they send him back?

PA: If they aren't willing to part with Roberts, neither am I! This deal is off!

Truth be told, trading a reliever with such high value (probably his peak right now) would probably be a smart move. For Roberts, however, not so much.

no way it should take Marmol,Murton,Gallegher,Veal, Cedeno to get Roberts/Sherill. That takes overpaying to a new level.

 

Murton/Gallegher/Cedeno is fair but to throw in a high ceiling/ high risk guy like Veal and then Marmol is just wishful thinking on there parts.

This is funny, I was reading a post from 2005 about the rumored Tejada-Prior deal in the 2005-2006 offseason, and this is one of the posts:
