(Lurker since 2001 from the Cubs.com exodus who lost his ID at some point)

Anybody we know, or were you strictly a lurker? I was a regular at that joint in '01.

Pretty much the only people I remember are you, NCCubFan...and that's about it as most seem to have changed their names. I never posted much, but when I did I was DiceMan. Played in a few yahoo fantasy leagues with people. Trying to make my comeback now.

There's still quite a few more posting here from those days, but yeah, even I have a tough time keeping up with the name changes. I'm sure you are aware that Tim was SanClementeFan.

Actually I didn't know that. I think he was also in the fantasy league with NC. Those were the days. I believe I was banned from Cubs.com for bumping "If Zambrano starts..." but that's only a guess as it seems people were banned for mere punctuation errors. Actually, I want to go back and see if that thread still lives. Good ol' Hogcard.

I wasn't in any fantasy leagues back then.

Good ol' Hogcard.

Haven't heard that name in awhile. He graced us with his presence here early on. He still owns the NSBB record for distance in the Mod troll toss.

Listen, I'm not saying the mods can't be criticized. But please be more polite in how you do it when you disagree with something.

Do I need to be more polite to mods than I do to regular posters?

That totally depends on how much you like it here. :D

I dunno, I'm a little creeped out by the animated emoticon war.

Was hoggy actually a man? I thought I read he was half beast half human female.

But, that's the beauty of it. NSBB does not discriminate in the mod troll toss. Hogcard still edges out Jabroni in distance.

Wow. Good one.

By the way, the way we are padding this thread, people are going to get all excited that something is happening with Roberts, only to find this fine emoticon debate. \:D/

I'm afraid I have to get back to work, anyway. :(

Work? :banghead:

Don't go back to work. This thread is keeping me from getting back to the weeklong misery of getting my taxes in order.

Taxes suck :old_alright:

I recommend :old_givebeer:

And then getting back to the Cubs :oldbluekoolaid:

Oh, well then maybe it was CubCuse. I'll just accuse everyone of having played fantasy baseball with me until someone sticks or at least isn't sure. All I'm sure about is NC was in it and I took second.

EDIT: Just went back and checked on Yahoo archives...I actually took third. Oh well.

If you remember and this was posted many moons ago is that supposedly Bedard had to be dealt first and then Roberts......... ;)

Is this a hint pc39?

Insider "Peace" at OH, speculating that the Bedard trade hold up could be because of the Orioles trading both Roberts and Bedard at the same time. Roberts to the Cubs, that is. Not both to Seattle.

Grain of salt. Just thought I'd throw in some actual Brian Roberts talk into the thread for fun.

Has Sean had a physical in Baltimore yet? I am going to be disappointed if he is traded.

Id rather give up Marshall, since the Cubs seem to have no interest in using him and his value is at its peak.

Especially since Lou doesn't seem to like the idea of 3 lefties in the rotation.

I'd give up Marshall in a second over Gallagher. I have no idea what use the Orioles would have for him though.

Starting pitcher is a good guess.

Buster Olney has the latest on the Cubs' talks to acquire second baseman Brian Roberts. According to Olney:

Sources involved in Baltimore's trade talks with Chicago expressed confidence that at some point, the Orioles and Cubs will finish the proposed Brian Roberts deal.

Olney says Sean Gallagher would be the centerpiece of the deal. On February 3rd, ESPN's Jayson Stark said Gallagher or Sean Marshall would be included, but beyond that nothing has been decided.

Hooray. And I guess this thread turned into the smiley thread.

The last thing you need when rebuilding though is low ceiling ML ready players. Marshall's a good cheap back end starter for somebody who wants to contend soon. The Orioles have plenty of those types of guys though. They need either positional players, or pitchers with a high upside (Gallagher or Veal).

Out of all the teams in the major leagues, Marshall might have the least value to the Orioles. He's almost worthless with what they are trying to do and the current contents of their farm system. By the time the Orioles were possibly getting good in 2010 and 2011, Marshall would be getting expensive and still wouldn't be any better than he is now.
