For anyone who cares (probably not many), somone asked Belkast if this was true and he said they are leaning that way but it's not fully over.

it's a good thing he chimed in, what with the accuracy he's displayed up to this point and all

How would everyone feel if the Cardinals traded for Roberts tomorrow?

I'd swear aloud and question the parentage of every person in the organization, from Will DeWitt Jr. to John Mozeliak and right on down the line from there.

Typical Cubs/Cards stuff, really.

Did anybody notice that Rosenthal doesn't sound as sure in the updated article?

The Cubs, however, have not been told that a deal is off, and a revival of the discussions remains possible. The Orioles continue to scout both Cubs major- and minor-league games in Arizona.

Oh sweet hell, can't this just die already :( I thought maybe we had a shot at putting this thread to sleep pre-300

I like the last sentence the best...."The Cubs, contrary to published reports, are not interested in Nationals infielder Felipe Lopez."

I think there is SOME chance this is just so they can get the media attention off of them so they can complete the deal without these crazy rumors.

I hope the deal gets done, but I don't expect it too. I just think I wouldn't be completely shocked to still see a deal happen.

Is it fair to say that this is the longest NSBB thread ever about something that never actually happened?

Its like a NORMALLY bad episode of Seinfeld

You're welcome on the correction.

If this trade has not happened by opening day, I'll lock it. If something happens after that, a new thread can be started, and we can merge it to this one and reopen it if necessary.

Just wanted to add that "Roberts has been pulled from todays game". They are saying it is due to his back. Let the fun begin........

Would they call your boy or would they tell him face to face he's been traded?

He's trying to help us reach 300. It'll be historic, they already made a movie about it. A little less blood and gore in the movie then has taken place in this post.

Brian Roberts has been scratched from Tuesday's game because of a sore back.

Every move Roberts makes at this point is met with trade speculation, but this injury sounds legitimate. The Baltimore Sun reports that "Roberts' back flared up and he received an injection to ease the pain," noting that he's expected to miss two games.
