This was coming eventually. The conferences voted to say that if there weren't enough eligible at-large teams in the top 14 at the end of the year to fill all the BCS at-large spots, it would automatically expand to the top 18 to get them all filled. This rule goes into play this year.

What a bunch of idiots. Just allow three teams from one conference if there aren't enough eligible teams in the top-14 if you stick by the two per conference rule. These are supposed to be the best teams going not the top 2 from every conference.

But we have to be fair about things soccer. We can't be hurting people's wallets by excluding some just because others might have been a little better. [-X

 Sadly true.

I agree. Just like the wild card spots in the NFL are for the best non-division winners, not the best second place teams. If third place in one division has a better record than second place in another the wild card goew to the third place team. Likewise, the at-large BCS spots should go to the highest ranked teams without automatic bids regardless of how many teams per conference that means.

Call me crazy, but I'm seeing UF/UI in the Sugar Bowl. And I have no clue why UM would be the 5th team chosen from the Big 10.

Oh and via illiniboard I found a pretty cool site. You can lock in face value tickets to big events(in this case BCS games) You put in your team and a select bowl or all access BCS(which locks in face value at any BCS game) You pay a fee to reserve the face value tickets. I did it for Illinois since it was just 5 bucks. Thought some of you might be interested. There is a referral program, so if any of you do register with the site, I'd appreciate the referral(I hope people realize I've been around here long enough not to just use stuff like this to get referrals) Just thought it was a cool site. If no referral, that's cool, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Might be nice to keep in mind for later events too.(NHL/NBA playoffs, NFC/AFC Championships, Super Bowl)

You can also play it like a futures market, buying the right to purchase, and re-selling later.

is there a link in there somewhere?

I'm an idiot

Nick Saban.......

http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/7467808

Alabama's latest loss has coach Nick Saban searching for ways to motivate his team.

Citing the 9-11 terrorist attacks and Pearl Harbor, Saban said Monday his team must rebound like America did from a "catastrophic event."

In this case, that would be an embarrassing 21-14 loss Saturday to Louisiana-Monroe, dropping the Tide's record to 6-5.

"Changes in history usually occur after some kind of catastrophic event," Saban said during the opening remarks of his weekly news conference. "It may be 9-11, which sort of changed the spirit of America relative to catastrophic events. Pearl Harbor kind of got us ready for World War II, or whatever, and that was a catastrophic event."

A Saban spokesman said the coach chose the 9-11 and Pearl Harbor references to illustrate the challenges facing his team.

People who get too upset about that are probably overreacting. On the flip-side, Saban is an idiot if he thought that wouldn't spark some outrage. Edited by snoodmonger

I agree on all counts.

I did hear a good joke during the Ole Miss-LSU game about Alabama. When they announced the score, there was a BAMA fan we were with who started throwing a fit. This guy behind us said "hey, what do maggots and Alabama fans have in common?....They can both live for 40 years off dead bears."

Not a bad day for the Illini. Zook was named Big Ten Coach of the Year, Mendenall was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Benn was named Freshman of the Year. Now add that in with hopefully an Illini win over Duke tonight, and it will be a great day.

Yea, right.

so Mendenhall is the best offensive player in the big 10, but hart is the finalist for the doak walker award over him?

1) I believe the Big 10 awards just focus on what is done in conference games. Hart missed 3 conference games but had better statistics than Mendenhall outside of conference (mostly due to the Illinois-Missouri game, but still).

2) There is the perception that Mendenhall was successful partly because the Illinois running offense and spread attack spaced the field so well (along with a great offensive line and Juice's threat to run), while Hart for a large part of the season had very little around him on offense.

3) The fact that Hart is a senior plays into the NCAA awards whether it should or not.

i hate saban so much, what a smug pos.

did anyone see the pc where he asks a reporter why he'd be afraid to ask a certain question and then go on to berate him for asking the question. i hope he gets hpv.

All I know is Ill put up where my mouth is if you will. Illinois has the best rushing attack that Florida will have seen all year, and Juice is starting to throw. It doesnt matter anyway, because even when Illinois beats Florida you still wont say the Illini are the better team

LSU's rushing attack is better than Illinois'. Are you saying right now that UF will lose to Illinois. Just come out and say it please.

You're assuming UF will win this weekend.

And that's not going to happen.

I'm rooting for you guys, but they way you faded against VTU leads me to believe you can't hang with that 3 loss team from Gainesville.

There's a chance the 'Noles win. Even if they don't they're still going to head the Capital One Bowl. That said, the Gators have to be a ten point favorite at least against FSU. Meyer's nails in home games and nails against rivals.
