Barry Rozner[/url]"]Many of their contracts are unmovable, and Alfonso Soriano's deal is on that list, but the one they might be able to unload is the four years and $62 million remaining on the contract of Aramis Ramirez.

The third baseman is overrated defensively, moves only when it seems to suit him, has taken to running out fewer and fewer groundballs and deep flies, and, as you witnessed last week, is a selfish situational hitter.

But the worst sin of all was his departure from the club right after Soriano was injured in early August.

The Cubs never needed Ramirez more, but he flew back to Chicago to have an injury examined before returning to the team a few days later.

The Cubs dropped four of six while he was out and scored 9 runs in those 4 defeats.

That's not something Piniella is likely to forget, nor is he unaware that Ramirez's demeanor is based mostly on his personal performance, not the team's.

He's got a bit of Sammy Sosa in him, and the only surprise Saturday night was that Ramirez didn't take a victory lap as Sosa did following the Braves' three-game sweep of the Cubs in 1998, which remains one of the most bizarre moments in Wrigley Field history.

How do these people get paid to write crap like this?

Yeah. I'm still pissed at Aram for this, considering we finished a couple of games out of first in the division standings.

Oh, wait......

Ahahahah.

I should have been a sports writer.

We don't finish within 5 games of first place without ARam, but hey yea great idea lets "unload" his contract!

Rozner is scum. He picks a target and just rags and rags at every turn. He's been on Ramirez for a few years now. I couldn't even get through that column it was so pathetic. I'm sure he called Maddux on his mobile phone to get that great man's opinion on the matter though.

I'm still trying to figure out what "selfish situational hitter" means. If it means he'd rather drive in a run with a man on second than bunt him to third, then I guess I'm missing the problem.

I doubt Bruce would comment on a colleague, but it would be nice to know if Rozer is [expletive] or something. That's got to be some of the most idiotic crap I've ever read.

Overrated defensively? He was up for gold glove this year, it was his best year defensively in his career for Christ's sake.

A sin to be injured and have a doctor look at the injury? WTF??

Did I miss something? It seems the knock on Ramirez has always been his defensive skills. Hasn't he worked pretty hard since joining the Cubs to not become a defensive liability? Rozner is way off base with that comment.

That is the dumbest thing ever written. Someone please send it to Fire Joe Morgan, they'd have a field day.

Wow. Just...wow.

Barry Rozner must have been waiting all year to write a "I hate Ramirez" article. Too bad he was our best offensive player all season, so he never had an excuse until now.

Screw Rozner. Seriously. He's passed Sullivan for the worst writer in the city.

When I saw the thread title, I thought this was going to be about Aram's awful performance in the playoffs. Something he should be bashed for. This is just stupid though.

Yeah. It's one thing if Rozner writes something like "Ramirez stunk in the playoffs, and needs to never do that again" or something like that.

But I'd even take some issue with that. It's a sample size of 3 games. He looked god awful. He's still a very, very good player.

However, Rozner has expressed a dislike of Aramis in the past, and the LDS just gives him a pretext for voicing said dislike in the stupidest way possible.

If he wants to beat the "trade someone because they sucked in the LDS" drum, he should be advocating moving Lee. But that won't happen, because Lee plays ball with the media, and Aramis usually doesn't. However, I felt that even that was different this year. Aramis ran hard, played while hurt nearly the whole year, and was our best offensive player.

But yeah, let's recycle the whole "professional base-jogger" crap. And people will buy it, because he was so bad in the playoffs.

Watching someone such as Barry Rozner trifle in irrelevancy is something I tend to derive pleasure from. Thanks Barry, you made my day.

Terrible article. Ramirez was the team's best offensive player this season. Also, he's actually improved his "hustle" and such; he certainly hasn't regressed in that regard. His defense has improved greatly since coming over from the Pirates, another sign of hard work.[/i]

I don't see why he should be bashed for it. He came up short in 3 games, but that happens. Go ahead and lament his lack of timely hitting, but bashing him? I see no point in that.

And you wonder why in the offseason players flock out of here.

That's such a horrible article.

ARam was our MVP IMO.

He's improved his defense 10 fold since 03. And he was one of our most clutch hitters during the season.

Who?

Someone had posted that as they were coming back from Arizona in the airport, they had heard that Ramierez and some others had already left on Sunday morning after the game 3 loss.

Pretty quick departure.

I don't hold it against any of em...but that post kind of opened my eyes.

Is he supposed to sit around Chicago and sulk for a couple days before going home? Baseball has a long season, and I'm sure that some of the players are anxious to get back to their families after the season is over.

I'm suprised that Rozner didn't hold his Sunday flight against him, too.
