I mean with everything that was said about him at his signing, to where he is now in fans' eyes, he might be the target of man crushes that are only rivaled by Woody, Prior during his rookie year, Ryno or Gracie?

Has this happened to any other Cub, more dramatically or quickly then Mark?

GREAT signing Hendry.

DeRo is just an awesome player. He's not the best 2nd baseman out there, but he plays the game the right way and is a very intelligent ballplayer. Plus, he actually knows how to take a walk. I got some serious mancrush on DeRo.

While no one ever considered him a goat, I think people developed a man crush on Soto pretty dang quickly.

Soto didn't go from the scrap heap (in alot of peoples eyes) to a stud in a season. Hence he wasn't included.

I liked the DeRo signing from day one. Didn't agree with all the consternation in here (although I understood it) about him being signed off a career year.

I felt like he was a Walkah who could field and play a bunch of positions.

I don't recall DeRosa ever being a goat. People didn't like the dollars he got, but we were much more concerned with the Blanco re-signing, the Marquis signing, the Lilly signing and the Soriano signing to be too worried about DeRosa.

That said, if the Cubs somehow do this, DeRosa will be one of the people remembered most fondly from this team. Hell, he will be anyway.

I agree that DeRosa was never a "goat." Obviously, people didn't love him like they do now and few thought he would do this well, but I don't really recall people bemoaning his place on this team a la Neifi...THAT'S a goat.

I think one of the things I love most about DeRosa is his leadership. Anyone else notice that on a team with leaders who tend not to be very vocal (ie Lee, Ramirez), DeRosa has stepped in and been a great interview and a spokesman for the team like Girardi was back in the day.

i wasn't a fan of the signing (primarily because I tended to think his 2006 was a fluke), but he's been solid no doubt. i've become a big fan.

It's pretty amazing because when you look at his numbers over the years, it really did look like 2006 was just a career year.

But -- they say he really did make some changes in his approach, and it really worked for him. I guess in this case it was right. Glad to have DeRo on this club.

i don't think he was ever a goat, i don't think he's currently a hero, and any transformation he made was not quick. so, i guess my answer would be yes.

not a hero, but i'll take 70 ribbies from my utility man every day and twice on sundays

Wasn't he benched for a while towards the beginning of the summer when his average was in the low .200s? Then Fontenot came up.

He was never hitting that low...at least, not according to his splits nor as far as I remember. They had him in RF while Fontenot was getting regular time.

His lowest average point was .231 on May 19th. He still had a .346 OBP even then though. From looking over the game logs, he was never benched. He had a day or two off here and there, but never more than that.
