He held out most of the season. Sucks so bad for him. I really wish baseball would have gotten to see this guy play a full and healthy career.

 

Just imagine the stats he and Mickey Mantle would have put up had they both not been so injury prone.

 

I feel sorry for Griffey, but Mantle screwed himself. He ruined his own career. Most of his injuries were from boozing it up so hard.

I really do feel for Griff, as hes one of the class act in the game, however you need that killer instinct in a situation like this, and Theriot should have been sent. Its not like holding him at 3rd makes Griff better.

Riot was already stopped before anyone realized Griff was hurt, and it was too late to send him when they realized what happened. I really don't think they held him out of respect for Griffey's injury.

No, they absolutely didn't hold him out of respect.

True. I just shudder to think of the numbers Mantle would have put up if he wasn't drunk half the time.
