My brother drunk dialed me the other night complaining about Dempster, so I sat down in front of the stats page (which he has never done) and made some observations for him. Demp is obviously not in the same class as any of the elite closers in baseball, nor will he ever be, and I'd like to punch him just one time for all the heart attacks he keeps giving us, but I think he's done a pretty acceptable job as closer and will make a good gap filler until the powers that be decide Marmol is ready for the job.

23/25 in save oppurtunities, 135 ERA+ 45 Ks, 27 BBs, 1 HR in 52 IP heading into today.

 

Doesn't look great today, but he's a pretty good closer.

I definitely wouldn't say he sucks, but it seems like he can never get 3 batters out in a row. It always makes it an interesting 9th -- though I would much prefer a non-interesting save.
