Is his ERA and Walks ratio as high as Dempster's?

 

ERA is higher, BB ratio is better, HR ratio is much worse.

Great outing by Marquis today. The rotation really needed a good start. It's also nice to see that it doesn't appear to be such a fluke when Marquis has a good start.

 

Marquis could be a fairly good pitcher if he wouldn't overthrow his pitches.

Yea, he's had that habit when he gets into trouble. I think it's awesome that he gave up a run in the 2nd inning but only needed 7 pitches to get his three outs.

 

It's hard to distribute the credit where it's due, but between Hendry picking him up (all pitching was way overpriced, so I'm only talking about player acquired, not size of contract), Rothschild working with him, and him executing to turn around from such a crappy season, there has been some good work there. He has proven to be a good pickup.

I think the point of bringing up Wandy was to point out that plenty of pitchers get lucky. If he's going to keep succeeding and/or getting lucky at the rate he's been going, I'm perfectly happy not looking a gift horse in the mouth, even though I have no idea where that expression comes from.

it's as if the prior ten games (9.1 IP) with two hits, three walks, and no runs allowed never even happened.

 

prior to that he had a couple rough games in non save situations.

 

prior to that, 11 games (11 IP), 7 hits, 6 walks, one run.

 

 

the guy's not Billy Wagner, but he's getting the job done.

Today's HR was also only the second he's allowed in more than 50 IP

 

It's easy to get caught up in the heart attacks, and people will always have players they like and dislike for no good reason. I was never big on Sammy dating back to his first season or two with the Cubs, and it took his ridiculous 01 season before he finally beat me into submission and made me a fan.

 

Good post, and I agree he has been a sufficient closer this year.
