It would take too long to name all the pitchers who have turned to gold after a crappy career, so I'll just say most of the starting pitchers for the Cardinals over the years.

for some reason, i thought you meant just former Cubs who were good with the Cardinals

since that's not the case, I'll add:

Chris Carpenter

Matt Morris

I dont think that Matt Morris is very fair to add to that list. He sucks now use he is old and has no arm left. But his first 6 years he had ERA+ of 130, 166, 130,137,114, and 111. So he was a pretty good pitcher his first 6 years in the league.

Its not like he was some scrub they picked up off of waivers though he was a first round pick who was very productive his first 6 years in the league with the Cards, then had a couple average years for them. He had sucked since he left cause they knew he was on the downswing of his career and let him go. The other guys are good example I just dont think that Morris is a good one.

Fernando Vina.

.266/.339/.331 his last year with the Crew.

Hit .300/.380/398 his first year with StL, .303/.357/.418 his second. He was out of the league after a brief stint with Detroit where he sucked in '04. He did fade a bit his last 2 seasons with the Cards though.

Jeff Weaver

5.18 ERA, 1.50 WHIP.

I'd say Cardinal Magic did not work on Mr. Weaver.

I take it you missed the playoffs?

I tried to avoid it, but yeah that's where the pixie dust kicked in with Weaver.

Jeff fought it for as long as he could, but the dust was too powerful.

Lou Brock

Oh yeah, and the maddening thing about Brock was he wasn't very good with us at all. Then he goes from us to the Cards, mid-season, and it wasn't like he waited for another year or two of development to kick in. Oh no, that would be too logical. Instead he starts tearing up for the Cards immediately, and really never looked back.

Brock never hit over 100 OPS+ for us, ever. He didn't dip under 100 OPS+ for the Cards until 1977, well into his senior years as a pro. And he went from 77 to 146 midseason, magically, in his trade year.

If there was ever an example of this, it's Brock. Good call.

To be fair, Gaetti had a good season with the Cubs, and was pretty good during his Twins days.

It was a half-season yeah, and actually I think Gaetti would be one of those guys Cards fans could point to and say "see? works both ways."

But we'll just ignore him and continue with our thread 8-)

Good lord why is Lou Brock in the hall of fame? Is his shiny 109 OPS+ really that impressive?

yeah, like ANY hall of fame voter knows WTF OPS+ is

Dude, he was fast. Don't muddy the waters with actual logic.
