Is Littlefield still the GM? How does he still have a job?

Apathy.

Was that an answer or an order?

Either way, I don't care...

Wow..

a JC sighting.

Don't stare.

How much worse can Izty be?

You'll find out soon enough. You guys still got the better end of the deal in the big picture, though. We only gave up Greg Maddux for Izturis.

We had to send the Dodgers $2M cash to get Izturis, now we're eating the remaining 2/3 of his contract to get rid of him, and he's already been paid for playing about a full season's worth of games. This has been an expensive fiasco and a good example of how money does matter. Teams with smaller payrolls can't easily afford these types of mistakes.

You're right. This is all on Hendry for starting this mess in the first place. We should have never traded for Izturcrap in the first place.

Not for long. New CEO coming in in the fall.

I expect (pray for?) wholesale changes.

There have been numerous examples of how Hendry's excessive contracts for mediocre-to-crap bench players and flash in the pan relievers have the cost the Cubs opportunities to sign more expensive free agents. Here's yet another example of financial mismanagement. While I'm pleased that Izturis is gone, he should never have donned a Cubs uniform. Maddux to LA should have been a fine deal -- if only it had brought us a decent prospect in return.

Couldn't agree more.

If I recall, in fact, it was during the recent Cubs' series at Pittsburgh (right before the break) that he announced he was stepping down.

Maybe I'm the only one surprised that this wasn't Izturis for Wilson straight up.

[-X

I'm not advocating it, just saying I was half expecting it for any Izturis to the Pirates deal.

That was McClatchey, who headed the group that bought the team.

Up until January, McClathcye had been the principle partner. At the time of the purchase, he was the majority shareholder. But, as limited partners sold, the Nutting Family of WV bought them out, gaining the majority in (I think) 2003. Bob Nutting has been Chairman of the board since then, while McClatchey has been the public face.

Nutting took over as Principle owner this past offseason, leaving McClatchey as CEO. McClatchye is dropping out of the picture altogether now. No idea if he's selling.

I can't imagine anyone coming in as CEO and not making wholesale changes, though.

Deck chairs on the Titanic I fear for you. Pittsburgh is gonna be stuck the way they are until those douchebags that run the show sell. And they have no reason to sell right now because they're making money by putting up no effort just collecting their revenue sharing dollars. It's gonna take a stud GM, a mass fan exodus, or a lot of luck to turn things around. It's sad.

If I calculate correctly the total financial damage incurred by the Cub's involvement with Izturis is roughly $7.25M. Hendry sucks, he's just fortunate enough to have the payroll to outspend his mistakes.

My eyes literally just went

This is awesome! Any other details other than the fact that he's gone?

Should we be celebrating another trade/DFA of a player that's not even ML worthy......or should we be demoaning the fact that Hendry has had a more talented player being held back in the minors because he signed said player in the first place?

90% celebration

10% bemoaning

While it does little good to the team's current course to tally yet another financial handcuff fostered by Hendry, it is important to remain mindful of such mistakes/mismanagement. At least now we won't get reminders of the poor Izturis deal every time we see him in a Cub uniform.

The bemoaning happened while Izturis was on the roster in the first place. That's already been done pretty much everyday while he was here, so there's no reason to go over it again when he's gone. Now is simply evaluating the trade, and the trade is reason for celebration.
