Hate to post on topic but, Mike Emiegh, a great minor league source over on BTF, says there's rumors the PTBNL is Zach Duke. Take away the sharp objects from Jake.

Not even worth responding to.

EDIT: Actually, I'll respond. The player is going to be someone who's not on the 40 man. So, that rules out Duke.

Although, the way Duke has pitched this season...

my buddy in Pittsburgh just IM'ed me and said the rumor is on the radio there too.

Just because you don't want it to happen, Jake, doesn't mean it won't. Face up that you have one of the worst GM's in baseball history

Jake, any chance we get my boy Alex in the deal?

It doesnt HAVE to be someone not on the 40 man. I wouldn't have a problem dropping Harvey for Duke.

I'm not getting my hopes up though. But if true, Hendry has made up for the Maddux for Izturis trade in spades. Hell it starts to chip away at the Pierre trade.

Uh, I'm pretty sure it's impossible that Duke can be a PTBNL. Am I wrong?

I don't know the rules that well but isn't that one of the reasons for ptbnl, so you can trade guys currently on the dl?

I believe that actually came into play in 2003. The Cubs were going to include Bobby Hill as one of the players going to Pittsburgh in the Ramirez trade. However, Hill was on the DL at the time (I think it was minor league DL), so it was worded as a PTBNL when the trade was announced. Hill was then sent to Pittsburgh as the PTBNL once he came off the DL.

I just looked in on the Astro's Pirates game and I'm not sure if it means anything or just a scheduled day off but Nady is not in the line up tonight. Just thought I'd mention it. Or do they have platooning with Doumit?

jim tracy has a semi-[expletive] baboon fill out his lineup card for him

doesn't that work better than jim tracy filling out the lineup?

Couldn't find it on BTF (not saying you're lying or anything), is there a link you can throw?

And FWIW, am I not the only one who heard Len (on the day of the trade) say we will be choosing from Pittsburghs AA affiliate?

There are some pretty good players in Altoona. Neil Walker, Andrew McCutchen, Luis Munoz, Yoslan Herrera, Steve Pearce, , the resurrected corpse of Dewon Brazelton.....

Herrera is on their 40-man, so no-go there......Munoz would be OK, though he doesn't look all that exciting. A whip of a guy, Juan Cruz-esque build. Not much of a strikeout guy, which bodes ill for projection as a starter. Good control though. A definite future middle reliever, so meh.

Walker and McCutchen are the two choices that would be a steal for us. I'd be very surprised and pleased if either made their way here.

We're not gonna get a top prospect. Littlefield isn't that incompetent. I would not be shocked to get someone who has a ton of untapped potential though, cause Littlefield is that incompetent.

If it's Duke the Pirates will officially be the worst run team ever. It won't happen.

But I do like the idea. How long do we have before we have to pick the player to be named later?

EDIT: It's six months for anybody else who was wondering.

I'm guessing its not going to take that long though.
