Izturis had one talent, defense. He has obviously lost that this year.

It seems pretty clear Lou dislikes Izturis for some reason. Theriot's been starting most of the games despite hitting quite badly as of late.

 

I'm not entirely convinced Izturis is better than Theriot on defense anymore. Ryan looks a lot quicker to me, though his arm is clearly not great. Theriot and Fontenot seem awfully quick together turning the DP.

Izturis does undeniably suck at this point. If they could ship him out for a minor league scrub, I'd probably do it just to get rid of his salary and open up roster space. Does he have another year on his contract, and is it a team option?

Ok how about younger in a baseball sense. Izturis has been in the Majors and sucked for a period of time, so maybe Lou is giving Theriot a chance to prove he sucks as well.

It's really kind of irrelevant as neither is particularly good. Izturis has been in the majors long enough that if he was going to figure it out, he would have. Theriot is 27 and never was a prospect to be anything other than a utility man. The fact he's playing just reflects the fact that the manager thinks he's a better option than Izturis (which he probably still is). Neither of these guys is going to be a very good everyday SS.
