Hasn't gotten a hit in 3 straight games.

He is currently hitting .230 and he hit in the leadoff spot tonight.

funny how when murton can't hit for beans, everyone says it's because he's not getting regular playing time... when jones can't hit, it's because he flat-out sucks.

Murton has sucked all year, I'm not going to deny that, but you know exactly what you are getting in Jones and that isn't much. His throws are all over the place, he can't hit lefties and he K's way too much. Granted, Murton drops easy balls in the OF but if I were to choose between the two I would pick Murton. I actually think Floyd is outplaying both of them right now and gives us the best chance to win. Someone also mentioned DeRosa in RF, that doesn't sound too bad either.

To be fair, Jones does have quite the history of suckitude, regardless of PT.

piniella seems to be sticking to the "if you play well, you'll get PT" theory (theriot, fontenot, pie), but he doesn't seem to abide by the "if you play like crap, you won't get PT" theory (jones, izturis). weird.

You know that's a BS comparison. Murton has 1 season in the majors and put up very solid numbers, especially his .365 OBP, which this team really needs. Oh, and he's young.

JJ has 7.5 seasons in the majors before this year and was really good like once, solid a couple times, and sucked a lot of the time.

And Murton's starts have been much more sporadic than JJ's. JJ has started regularly lately as Hendry is trying to show off the goods for sale. Unfortunately, by letting him play, his stock is only dropping.

I believe with Floyd activated we'll soon see a platoon of him and Murton in RF - it makes the most sense.

Under the who's not hot section at Chicagosports.com:

Jacque Jones is hitting .190 (20-for-105) since May 1 with two home runs and eight extra-base hits.

Posted

Jacque has been playing terribly, but he has hit a lot of hard balls lately. A lot of warning track outs (on hard hit balls), and plus the one last night where Lamb just robbed him. I'm not justifying his play because he has sucked, but I'd bet his BABIP is pretty low recently.

The reason why he is playing so much is because Lou hopes he gets hot enough to attract another team so he can be traded. Fair? no, but there is logic behind it.

Funny how stupid that comparison is. Jacque plays all the time and sucks. Murton has stunk this year, but has 40% fewer chances. As brief as his career has been so far, he's already outperforming Jones.

What's a better trade off?

1) Keep sending the same hack out there and falling even further under .500 in hopes that the hack increases his trade value.

2) Eat the salary, dump the hack and put a better hitter in his spot in the order, increasing the chances of winning more games than you lose.

I've always been under the impression that baseball is played to win games, not to improve someone's trade value.

Last night he hit some absolute rockets, but all landed in gloves.

I hate seeing him on the team, but he does deserve better than his batting average suggests.

true, but that still doesn't explain his lack of power this year. Even with a higher BA he'd still have lousy production, especially for a corner OF, due to his poor power.
