Looks like I might have to follow last year's Cory Lidle Halloween costume with a Josh Hancock costume. Better get to Ebay...

Tactless.

If it was one of those tow trucks that has the tower in the back as opposed to a flatbed that would do more damage wouldn't it?

According to the 3:00 pm news conference it was a flat bed tow truck. It did not appear he was speeding and there was no indication of alcohol (or alcoholic containers) in the vehicle but they won't know the results of the autopsy until later in the week. The tow truck driver saw him approaching in his rear view mirror and said he tried to avoid the tow truck at the last instance and swerved...but not fast enough.

This will most likely be even more tactless than the Halloween costume thing... but I find it hard to believe that this would happen without any alcohol being involved. If the autopsy proves he was sober then I'll feel bad, but until then it's just another death in the world.

Whenever these kinds of tragedies happen, it's difficult not to jump to conclusions. I remember when Lidle's death happened the day after he had a terrible performance and people thought that he had committed suicide. That did not turn out to be the case, despite some initial evidence to the contrary.

I think it would be best for the sake of everyone's beliefs regarding the recently deceased to keep a lid on certain opinions and speculation. Perhaps you want to make light of the situation or to come to some inferences that, while not unreasonable, would somehow be condemning of the recently departed.

I do not think this thread is the place for that.

Death is one of the most difficult things any person has to deal with in their lives. Some of us have developed radically different responses to it which inevitably come into conflict with one another, as we have seen in this thread so far. NSBB has a large and diverse group of people and this is a public forum. Because of the sensitive nature of this topic, otherwise calm people might be prone to over-react or take some statements personally despite the fact that they might be responding to someone who did not mean ill by it.

It might not be a bannable offense to have certain opinions, but sharing those opinions and fighting over them sure as heck can lead to bannable offenses. For now, I hope that we can keep this thread and those which will follow as more details emerge civil and respectful.

You've never taken your eyes off the road to pick out the next song on your ipod, or to look through your phone book to make a call?

I have, but it's all about timing. You're on the highweay, you can see for quite some time, unless it was extremely foggy last night.

Man, this is such an awful thing for a team to carry all year. And not even just then, what with him being a part of the WS team. My heart really does go out to his family, his team and his fans. Edited by Sammy Sofa

The Cubs and NSBB have once again proved to be very classy organizations.

I was at the Darryl Kile game and the class shown that afternoon has exhibited itself once again.

I feel for Hancock's family and for the entire Cardinal organization, and I hope that they can cope with this as best they can.

That being said, I hope the Cardinals don't win another baseball game for the rest of the year.

I too was at that game. My heart goes out to Josh's family and the Cardinals. 29 years old is just entirely too young, reguardless of anything. Some people who have problems with this game being canceled, or don't care because he may have been drinking and driving really need to take a good long look at themselves in the mirror.
