At least this year, I'm confident that Lou isn't going to soft pedal it with his players. It's time to knock some heads and get this team playing winning baseball.

I don't know what' worse the Cubs losing in the manner that they did or hearing about the beginning of the end for Prior (I guess that wasn't much of a shock).

Nope.

The beginning of the end for Prior was the collision with Giles and the fact that the MLB has a stricter stance on steroids.

The Cubs.com notes for today said,

Friday the 13th: There are no rabbit's feet hanging from Cubs relief pitcher Will Ohman's locker. He wears No. 13 and isn't superstitious at all. Why pick that?

"The number I originally wanted was gone," Ohman said. "I had the least amount of time at Double-A and I had some choices. But I said, 'One of my favorite players in the big leagues is Billy Wagner,' so I decided to wear No. 13. I had a great season, so I said, 'You know, I really like that number.'"

Just came home...

Good game, bad ending.

I was in the pile-up for Z's home run. It came right at me... But unfortunately I was surrounded by the greatest fans in baseball.

So in other words you're missing an ear and have a split lip.

I wish I had cable so I could catch Lou's press conference.

It's nice to hear him give it to these guys unfiltered. Aramis has really been hustling his butt off from what I've see (not that it hugely impacts his offensive performance).

Where oh where did my fat Zambrano go?

I want him back now.

"What the hell do you think isn't working?" he roared, his eyes flashing. "You see the damn game."

Skeptics would say, "Welcome to Wrigley, Lou."

But Piniella isn't about to accept what has happened here before.

"I can start to see some of the ways this team has lost ballgames," he said tersely, right before the outburst. "I can see it. We have to correct it obviously."

What had him boiling was either a meltdown or blowup by starter Carlos Zambrano and reliever Will Ohman in the fifth inning. Whichever term you choose, it provoked Piniella's famous temper.

Alllowing only one hit in the first four innings, Zambrano allowed this sequence to start the fateful fifth: Single, single, walk, single, single, double, hit batter.

The result was four runs home, the bases loaded and nobody out.

In came Ohman, who threw nine pitches, eight of them balls.

The result was two free runs and a 6-5 Reds' lead.

It was hard to tell with whom Piniella was most upset, Zambrano or Ohman, while he spoke in raised voice afterward.

"This guy's your ace," he said. "You have a 5-0 lead with the eighth and ninth hitters coming up. You feel pretty good about that and all of a sudden it turns into a six-run inning.

"What do I do? I pitch him when it's his turn again. What else can I do?

"And then I bring in the reliever who's throwing 30-40 foot curveballs to boot."

Hahahahahahahaha

its a breath of fresh air after dusty and his saying his team just needs a hug after a crappy performance

When I left for work the Cubs were winning 5-0. I'll act like I never checked the final, and just assume they won.

I get the feeling that Lou retreated to his office and took a shot of 25 yr old scotch, then listened to some Mettalica (likely their first album "Kill em' All") and came out to chew some a**. Then he went home, had a good meal, and went to sleep.

30 to 40 ft curveballs. Give em' Lou! If we are going to lose, at least this manager is going to feel like we do about it.

You KNOW someone was itching to ask the Friday the 13th and Ohman wearing 13 question, Lou headed everyone off at the pass.

Me and my buddies had a good laugh at Lou blowing up.

Not sure if it was posted but I'd like to remind everyone of this moment in last years baseball history:

We all know how they performed after he was disappointed with his team.

Here's hoping for similar results

EDIT: Just watched the clip again... even though we're performing poorly, I love watching Lou complain. Makes me realize how much of a pansy Dusty was.
