Some guys I'd prefer to McRoberts:

Greg Oden

Kevin Durant

Brendan Wright

Al Horford

Joakim Noah

Corey Brewer

Jeff Green

Roy Hibbert

Nick Young

Acie Law IV

Spencer Hawes

Julian Wright (whoops, just saw snood's post)

Brandon Rush

There are a couple other players I'd consider before McRoberts too - especially since I expect a few of these guys to return. And I know some of the foreign guys like Jianlian and Splitter are considered lotto picks.

I like Brewer, Young and Rush, but the only wing player the Bulls are likely to select over an athletic 4 with size like McRoberts is Durant, I suspect. I can't see them taking a PG like Law either.

McRoberts stock is down at the moment, but I bet his stock improves after the pre-draft camps and workouts. I'd be surprised to see him available in the 12-15 range the Bulls are likely to pick, and it could end of being a great buy-low pick if he's there.

I'd take Gasols brother over McRoberts.

I think we can all agree McRoberts will be pathetic in the NBA right?

I don't know. I personally don't think he'll be successful, but he does handle the ball extremely well for a big man (I've seen him cross a few guys over this year believe it or not), and if he ever develops that 15 foot jumper, he has a shot at being a solid role player.

I think he will develop that jumper. Never really could in Duke's system when he was on the floor with 4 jump shooters. I'm not a huge McRoberts fan, but I think he can be a Troy Murphy type player in the NBA. Not a star, but I think he could be a 12-14 PPG scorer who gets 8 rebounds as a role player.

which would make him redundant on the Bulls, as we already have Noc filling that role

An excellent point if Nocioni were 6-10.

And if Noc was a flopper who constantly whined to the refs.

Are you referring to Murphy or McRoberts? Either way, Nocioni mastered flopping long ago.

McRoberts Story

My money is on him to fail. The guy is a mediocre college player and, if he even makes the NBA, will get eaten alive.

Just like Shavlik Randolph?

is this sarcasm? Shavlik Randolph is a decent bench player who can give you 10 minutes of rebounding and defense, but I sure as hell don't want to be picking a Shavlik Randolph clone in the top 20 of the NBA draft.

while we're talking about big white guys who will probably fail in the NBA, does anyone actually think Hansborough will be anything at all at the next level? I don't

I doubt it, but I didn't think Boozer would either. I think TH is a hard worker, so anything could happen. But, I don't want the Bulls to get him.

I think Hansborough gets lost in the NBA among the stronger, taller, more athletic power forwards. I'm sure he'll rebound well, but I don't see him having a lot of success when his main competition is gonna be guys like Duncan, Garnett, Jermaine O'Neal, etc. He doesn't matchup well against the power forwards of today.

I have a theory that college big guys who don't have a good outside shot will be better in the NBA than college big guys who have a good mid-range jumper. This is because big guys who can shoot will tend to play the easier perimeter game in the NBA rather than let their bodies take a beating down low. This is based on nothing specific, but I've seen guys like Tim Thomas and Joe Smith become average by just drifting outside, while Carlos Boozer became very good by just concentrating on posting up, rebounding and defense.

Hansbrough will be worse than McRoberts.

I dunno. I think Hansbrough's motor alone guarantees him a Anderson Varejao style role, and he's obviously a better finisher/foul shooter than Varejao. He's also smaller, but I think he has a lengthy NBA career, even if he doesn't ever validate his draft spot. I can't say the same about McRoberts. He won't be able to go past anyone, he can't really step out on the deeper perimeter, and he's not big/strong enough to be a force underneath.

Yep, I agree with you. I see Hansbrough having a better NBA career than McRoberts. I'm just not impressed with McRoberts at all.

Hansbrough is closer to 6-7 than 6-9, and he has short arms. He won't be able to push post defenders around in the NBA. If you believe McRoberts isn't big enough to be a force underneath, I'm having trouble understanding why you see Hansbrough having a lengthy NBA career.

Agreed. While I don't think either will be stars in the NBA, I think Hansbrough will have a longer and more successful career than McRoberts will.

He is Argentinian.
