YES! If Oden is truly going pro, and with the news Green and Hibbert have declared, that pushes the chances of Hibbert being there for the Bulls up.

Yeah. :)

Cook? Are you serious?

Cook is Joe Forte just waiting to happen.

Posted

Conley would be smart to stay another year, given how PGs with limited time in college tend to do.

Cook's got a ton of talent, but all he is at this point is potential. He could make himself millions by staying another year and becoming the focal point of that team with Kosta Koufos. If he hires an agent, he's an idiot.

This year Conley is the first point guard taken. Next year Mayo, Rose, Gordon, Collison, and possibly Collins make the spot a little crowded. I would go now were I Conley.

Good point on Conley. Rose, Mayo and Gordon are all better scorers so there's a good chance they would all go before Conley. As for Cook, he likely would not have been in college under the old rules. I think he's possibly a end of the lottery pick at best, to a beginning of the 2nd round at worst. It depends on need and how he works out.

Long Beach Press-Telegram[/url]"]Young to enter NBA draft; Shipp to stay at UCLA

Leading scorer Nick Young will forego his senior season at USC and declare for the NBA draft, according to sources.

The small forward, who prepped at Cleveland High of Reseda, plans to make his official announcement on campus early next week.

Young has yet to hire an agent but will do so soon, according to one source who is close to the player.

The junior's stock rose during the NCAA Tournament last month, when he led the team in scoring in victories over Arkansas and Texas before the surprising Trojans fell to top-seeded North Carolina.

...

UCLA's Josh Shipp likely will stay in school, according to his mom, Debbie Shipp.

"His focus is going back to school and trying to get back to the Final Four and get that championship," Shipp said. "People have been asking about it, but he really hasn't embraced that. I can't speak for him, but he does have until the end of the month."

Two things...

1) Gordon's probably going to end up at SG despite his size. If Indiana can teach him better passing ability, I'll buy his potential as a PG. For now, consider me pessimistic.

2) Sherron Collins? I'm skeptical on that, but I don't know as much about him as I do the others on your list.

I think Conley's got the goods to be as good as, if not better than, everyone on your list when all is said and done. However, I also think that the history of PGs who do not spend much time in college does not speak to Conley's chances. He could very well break the mold, but PG is such a difficult position to master that any team who takes him will have to be patient since it's quite likely he'll take his share of lumps before finally putting it all together.

In terms of what's best for him in terms of short term rewards, coming out now would probably be best for him. But long term, I think he would be better-served with another year at OSU competing for the Big 10 Title and making another run at the title; especially if Cook decides to stay.

I think you're wrong about that. Gordon has improvements to make before he's a point guard, but he displays excellent passing abilities at the high school level. He improved in that area a ton last season. That said, he'll likely never be a true point guard, maybe a point guard in the Gilbert Arenas mode though.

No he may not be a true pg, but he could be Dwade waiting to happen. That pushes Conley back a spot. Oh and Collins is good, Self sat on him a bit. That and Augustin ant Texas, Crittendon from GT. There are a lot of pgs who make it interesting next year. Go now Mike.

Agreed. Conley Jr. will never be drafted higher than he will be this year. Regardless of how ready he is, his stock will never be higher. He's coming off a great season in which he help lead his team to the national championship game as a freshman. This is also a relatively poor draft for point guards, which won't be the case next year as pointed out.

I look no further than his last name to make an Eric Gordon comparison. He reminds me a lot of Ben Gordon, but with better ball handling ability. Arenas is a pretty good comparison too.

He is much more athletic than Ben G. EJ does winmill dunks.

Against high school competition. When he does something like this in the NBA, I'll believe he's much more athletic than Ben Gordon.

By the way, is that Frank "pass the bong" Williams with the assist?

Wow, that was amazing. His elbows as high as the rim.

sounds like speculation to me. Nothing in Frankie's wikipedia entry about any alleged drug use

Was a rumor floating around a few years ago. My cousin was a grad student at U of I at the time and "knew" a guy. So yeah, definitely speculation. Would help to explain his inexplicable suckatude in the NBA.

Yeah that would explain it, or it would be he was stuck behind Marbury in New York. Even though he played when they made the playoofs. He sucked with the Bulls because right before the season started his mother died and he fell into a deep depression. He didn't care about basketball at all at that point. But, hey he is a professional athlete so he should be made of steel. Unreal.

You certainly live up to your name. Would you jump to Kenny Battle's defense as well? No need to answer that. We've hijacked this thread enough already.

Sorry, it's just that I know Frankie. Have since we played in a camp together when we were in 6th grade. Everyone hates on him, including Illini fans. Couldn't it be that maybe he maxed out his talent. Why does everyone assume so much about the kid. The last I will say on it.

Posted
most of the illini fans i know say Frankie's mediocre career was bill self's fault. but most them think Islamic terrorism is bill self's fault, too.

I would say Self helped Frankie. Kruger was gonna ruin him, got so angry that Frank was a little out of control as a frosh point guard. Self understood Frank was gonna make some mistakes and let him play, allowing Frank to blossom.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Well guys, I might be gone a while. I think I too might have to put my name in the draft. Hell I got as good a shot as Shaun Pruitt at getting drafted.

Oh wow. I'm sure he'll be back, but that would be a big blow. Curious decision.

Well it actually makes sense. If you haven't tested the waters and you are a junior you should declare. You get to see where you stand and what you need to work on. Plus it is a reality check for a lot of these guys. Might make Shaun appreciate that last year a little more once he finds out his NBA future isn't all that bright.
