their OOC in 2007 is atrocious. A weakened ND team along with the #115, #117 and #119 teams in the country.

But they do play all 3 of the big 3.

Being....OSU, Michigan and Wisconsin?

Yes.

That's not really up to them. The Big 10 sets the rotation of who does/doesn't play. It does, however, set up for a non-controversial title situation in the conference (assuming someone like Iowa doesn't suddenly decide to be good)

I'm not saying they chose to play them, I'm saying at least they play those 3, so the OOC weakness isn't as big an issue. If PSU played that OOC schedule, then failed to play 1 or 2 of those big three, there's a chance they could be an undefeated conference champ without having done much on the field.

They play Iowa as well. Northwestern and Minnesota are the two they skip.

Right, so they have one of the best possible Conf. schedules assuming Illinois gets a little better. Indiana sucks, but what can you do? The team has taken heat from the local paper for the OOC though. Truly lame.

Penn State home games next year

Road games next year

@scUM (ugh please beat these a-holes sometime)

@Illinois

@Indiana

@Temple

@Moo

They shouldn't lose more than 3 games, without question. One-loss season is certainly reasonable, with the hardest game on the schedule clearly being the Michigan game. It all really depends on if the OL plays well and if Morelli can be pretty good, like he was against UcheaT.

Your acronyms confuse me.

I just saw PSU starts a series with Alabama in 2010, that should be pretty cool.

I wish more Big Ten teams would play SEC teams during the reg season. As a Mich. fan, I am sometimes embarassed by the lack of non-midwest teams on their schedule, though they do play Oregon at home next season. the 08', 09', 10' non-conference gigs are still open.

Michigan did play Vandy this year :)

They need to not play Temple.

at least Temple won a game last year, unlike FIU

AND Buffalo. One, not 2 since they play so few out of conference games.

I can't imagine Penn State losing to ND next year. It's a home game, ND is graduating key players, while PSU returns something like 17 starters, including the QB, 4 of 5 OL, all the receivers, all the DB's....PSU is likely only a 1 or 2 loss team next year.

They have a terrible quarterback?

Ohio State has a terribly easy schedule next year, and may get an undeserved BCS berth. Which would be nice. Although I should ask ND fans about how that feels.

2007

Youngstown State (9/1)

Akron (9/8)

at Washington (9/15)

Northwestern (9/22)

at Minnesota (9/29)

at Purdue (10/6)

Kent State (10/13)

Michigan State (10/20)

at Penn State (10/27)

Wisconsin (11/3)

Illinois (11/10)

at Michigan (11/17)

We might not lose a game until the Michigan game, and the team will be fairly mediocre.

Penn State? He hasn't been great, but neither was Kerry Collins until his senior year. And, as I said, there is a very good underclassman waiting to take over should Morelli fail

I'll be shocked if USC isn't playing in the national championship game next year. Sadly.

Replace that with Michigan, and DOUBLE SADLY and you'd be right.

I know this will piss of Domer fans, and I honestly dont care, but can we stop sending ND to BCS Bowls? It bores the audience, it embarrasses Notre Dame, enough already.

We get it, you guys can get 9-10 wins every year. But the last 2 years you were outclassed by the elite competition, you're stealing spots away from teams that deserve to go.

Would it have been less boring to see LSU clobber West Virginia, the only other eligible team?

And in 05, they got an auto-bid, not an invitation. They finished top 6 like any other outside of a BCS conference team would have had to to gain an auto-bid.

FOR THE LAST TIME, I DISAGREE WITH THE THREE-TEAM RULE. IT'S A LOAD OF BALONEY. DOESN'T MAKE IT LESS OF A RULE.

Hey, then we agree.

Shoulda been Wisconsin in there. I don't even have a problem with ND in last year, but this year...eh...they didn't really deserve to go.

Except that they did, given the circumstances. It was a down year for the top teams all over college FB, and normally ND's resume wouldn't have probably gotten them in, but this year it was them or West Virginia, and we all know who they're picking if it comes to that. Whether they had any chance to beat LSU is one thing, but by regular season alone, they had every right to be at the Sugar Bowl.

Obviously I've been a Big East defender but under the circumstances (Slaton being hurt for the bowl game) I don't think West Virginia could have given LSU a game either. With Slaton it's a completely different story.

Where there's a Morelli, there's a way.

Yup, but according to the depth charts on rivals.com, Notre Dame has all of three returning starters. That's really rough. Penn State loses only 8 offensive starters (9 if Dan Connor goes to the NFL). They do lose their entire starting defensive line, but that's a position that was recruited really well in the past few years, so I'm not too concerned there. The big things PSU needs next year is more awareness from Morelli, suitable replacements for Hunt and Levi Brown, and somebody to step up and replace Posluszny's leadership.

Thanks for those outside the top 25 recruiting classes in back to back years, Ty. 2 offensive linemen and 2 defensive tackles in two years. Think about that for a second.

I was mostly being sarcastic, I'd give ND maybe a 15% chance to win that game, but PSU really can't afford to stick with Morelli if he starts next year like he did this year. is there a stud breathing down his neck at all?

Not really. I like Pat Devlin a lot (highly-touted recruit who committed last year), but he'll be a redshirt frosh who has never taken a snap. I think Daryl Clark is next in line, but I'm not enamored with him at all.

I think Morelli's performance in the Outback Bowl was very, very encouraging.

And Austin Scott will replace Hunt. Less yards after first contact, but more explosiveness. Unless some sort of story comes out about him being sent home from the Outback Bowl. Also, LeSean McCoy is rumored to be leaning toward PSU (if he meets the academic standard, that is)

Yep, Austin Scott was in the same class as Hunt but they redshirted him this season so he could start next year. Rodney Kinlaw will back him up, but what I saw of him this year I didn't like (runs a lot side to side, doesn't burst through the holes).

Morelli looked much more composed and under control in the Outback Bowl. Hopefully he can use that and come into next year more polished.

Well the big game is tonight, who's going to win? I think Trussel does a wonderful job of preparing and that will be the difference IMO, that and execution of course. I'm curious to see what new wrinkles the coaches are going to throw in today.
