5/45? Congrats to Juan Pierre for getting the most for his completely one-dimensional skill set.

And Congrats to Jim Hendry for wisely staying far FAR away.

ESPN.com is reporting that the Dodgers and outfielder Juan Pierre have agreed to a five-year, $45 million contract.

Woops.

Oh My. They have Hendry's dream: Furcal and Pierre.

We'd take Alfonso Soriano at $17 million per year first. The Dodgers likely could have re-signed Kenny Lofton for $3 million or so and gotten 90 percent of Pierre at a third of the price for 2007. Pierre's durability is nice and his defensive statistics have improved through the years, but he's had OBPs of .326 and .330 the last two years -- compared to .392 and .360 for Lofton -- and he certainly doesn't make up for it with power. He can only get slower as he ages, so he could be quite a liability come 2010 and 2011. Until then, he'll be little more than an average regular

Wow. That's dumb. As in, seriously dumb. I'm still pondering the whole Soriano deal, but this is a no-brainer, and I'm glad it's the Dodgers who took him.

Yeah, it's nice to keep him in the NL.

Yeah I have to believe Soriano is worth 8 million more a year than Pierre. Granted Soriano's is 8 years but this does make me feel a bit better.

And Kent says something under his breathe that can't be repeated.
