Good call.

I have no problem with this. I wouldn't have had any problem with Pujols either though. Pujols will probably sitll win 3 or 4 more MVPs.

I bet the Cardinal fans are a whizzing and a moaning over this one.

I'm kind of surpised by this, I thought Pujols would win it for sure, but I guess that crack cocaine smuggling conviction might have swayed a few voters.

* Yeah, I know, different Pujols; guilt by association.

For anyone interested, voting breakdown:

Ryan Howard received 20 of the 32 first-place votes to beat out Albert Pujols for the NL MVP award on Tuesday.

Pujols received the other 12 first-place votes. Those two were one-two on every ballot except one, as one voter snuck Carlos Beltran into second place and dropped Pujols to third. The standings were as follows: Howard (388), Pujols (347), Lance Berkman (230), Beltran (211), Miguel Cabrera (170), Alfonso Soriano (106), Jose Reyes (98), Chase Utley (98), David Wright (70), Trevor Hoffman (46). While we would have reversed the top two, one can make an argument for Howard because he played in 15 more games than Pujols. The NL voters did well on the down-ballot votes, though it would have been nice to Brian McCann included on a few ballots.

That's a shame.

I guess chicks aren't the only ones that dig the long ball.

There's no doubt in my mind who the most valuable player in the NL was this year...

Pujols was robbed. He was clearly the better overall player last year.

This voting was for the MVP, not the best player. [/can of worms]

Pujols helped carry his team to a World Series victory. What did Howard do that could make him for valuable to his team than Pujols?

So, why do people always bring up the postseason when talking about MVP? I'm just trying to make a point that even people who like baseball the stupid way can understand.

I don't know that anyone brings up the postseason other than weighing which guy got his team there.

FTR: I thought Pujols deserved it but have no issues with Howard winning it.

Pujols deserved it more, but Howard's season was fantastic. Pujols will win a few more MVPs. Plus, he won the World Series. I'm sure he'll get over it.

He might wish he tried Free Agency though.

Can you elaborate? I assume you mean Pujols' season was par for the course, but Howard's season was an anomaly?

Personally, I thought the RIGHT guy won the MVP award. No disrespect to Pujols, but since Abreu was dealt, Howard was the LONE RANGER on the Phillies team that was expected to fade after the trade, but managed to stay in the hunt.

I would not have had a problem with Pujols winning it, I just think the RIGHT player won it.

Nope. The right guy didn't get. I'm no fan of Pujols, but I just get upset when the voters screw things up. They messed it up last year and once again this year.
