Everyone on your wish list will cost far more, just watch the obscene numbers this winter.

I won't argue with you there. I think it's going to be quite a big pay day for many of the FA's out there.

I'm not really sure how the whole 2b thing is going down, though. There seems to be a lot of players looking for homes at that position, and not really all that many teams looking to fill those holes.

to all the critics,

.395/.543/.938

sure would suck to have a hitter who's done that in his career against lefties platooning in right with Jacque, wouldn't it.

hell, his .338/.455/.793 against righties stacks up with DeRosa's career best stats, plus he plays five positions, and the five positions we need backup at.

it was mentioned earlier that he signed with the understanding that DeRosa would be the starting 2B.

I think you missed the point I was making. less money would have gotten Craig Wilson and that monster line as a right handed platoon with Jones, and not have cost a type B signing.

Also....forgive my ignorance, but how do you figure out OPS+? And while I'm looking stupid, same for ERA+?

I have no idea myself, but I do know that 100 is average for both, and that it takes time period, park factors, etc. into account.

I'm not mad we have Derosa. He is actually a versatile player that has value being versatile. I am disapointed to hear he was signed as a starter, unless that is to start at SS. There were better options for second.

If we get Soriano or Drew, then the offense will be fine with him or without him.

This signing does make me think we will really push to sign Soriano to be our lead-off hitter.

BTW, someone please tell me Derosa was not a type A-B FA.

he was a "B"

ops = on base % + slugging%

era = (earned runs/innings pitched) x 9

And if we sign an A player, I think we lose that pick anyway. consider the pick gone, because will sign 2 A players.

"I love our infield," Hendry said. "I feel great about it. You've got two Gold Glove winners [in Izturis and Lee], a great player at third base and I like our young players."

Looks like we are getting Izturis and Derosa next year up the middle.

Better be getting a LOT of offense from the outfield if that's the case.

The pitchers will like it. My guess is the Murton, Theriot, Cedeno will all be gone for pitching.

good ridance to cedeno. i very highly doubt murton or theriot are going anywhere.

I have way too much on my mind to make a cohesive post, so some scattered thoughts:

Won't mind him as number 8 hitter

TRADE Izturis and get a real SS (no thats not Theriot)

Wow, with the way the market is looking, Aramis LOVES Chicago

I fully expect DeRosa to be average .330 OBP .420 SLG

Probably were better 2B options out there, not so much for UTIL guys

but are we even using him in the UTIL role

Generally dissapionted, but wont jump to knee-jerk reactions

He's asking for OBP+ and ERA+.. not OBP and ERA...

yeah, i missed your point. i agree, though i don't know if Wilson is willing to sign for a platoon role.

No, we know that. He was asking about OPS+ and ERA+.

Mark DeRosa

Plays lots of positions, versatile

Can't hit righties to save his life

Can hit lefties a fair amount

Comfortably wrong side of 30

$1-2m for one year, $1.5-3m for two years

Bench guy you want to keep on the bench

Stupid Cubs. Again.

So is Derosa going to be batting second or will he bat 7 or 8? I am a bit confused on where he fits in the lineup.

It's probably way too early in the offseason to be making those predictions.

Will the Cubs have Drew or Soriano. Will they have Tejada or Carl Crawford? Will they have A-Rod or Burrell?

I don't even think you can really pencil DeRosa anywhere into the line up, let alone what spot in the batting order, until the offseason unfolds.

actually the cubs pick is protected so they won't lose it. I thought they changed that rule anyway. also ramirez doesn't count as an A signing.

God awful move.

If there was any position the Cubs could fill cheaply it was 2B. I have a hard time imagining any strategy that makes paying DeRosa 4.33 mil for three years a good move. Does Hendry have NO confidence in Theriot, Fontenot AND Patterson???

Once again Hendry works the problem backwards.

Come on guys, you have to get inside Hendry's head.....he believes DeRosa is going to be "the new David Ecsktein/Polacido Polanco" that has got to be worth $4 million.....right?

Right?

I guess, not all GMs need to have a brain to hold down the job.

Patterson isn't close to being ready, Theriot is utility and Fontenot is a midget who should go in any deal anyone asks for him.
