Scott Boras has indicated that Andruw Jones will remain a Brave in 2007. Jones has 10-5 rights, and thus the right to veto any trade.

Link.

Boras also said Jones would be with the Braves next season, dismissing the possibility of the center fielder being traded this winter or during the season.

Jones has no-trade protection as a 10-and-5 player with 10 years of major league service and five with his current team, but he could waive it if the Braves approached him with a trade proposal that was attractive.

"Andruw has the control and Andruw is going to be an Atlanta Brave for the '07 season, that's clear," Boras said. "He'll see how the season plays out and what the team's situation is."

As to how much money, Jones will seek in a deal in 2007...

Just before the announcement of baseball's new labor agreement Tuesday, agent Scott Boras indicated to the Journal-Constitution that Jones' next deal would dwarf his six-year, $75 million deal.

Boras might ask for more than $20 million annually for Jones in a multiyear deal.

This could remove another Cubs target. Or Boras could just be blowing smoke.

If Boras is going to be asking steep dollar amounts for Jones next deal I could see the Braves moving Jones. With all the talk of brining back Glavine and Maddux I would think they would need to clear some payroll.

Like vance said, Jones has 10-5 rights so he can veto any trade. If he doesn't want to be traded, he won't be.

My lack of interest in Andruw would then dwarf my lack of interest in Carlos Lee.

20 million a year for Andruw Jones? Was Boras drunk out of his mind when he said that? That's one of the silliest things I've heard in awhile.

Boras also said today (or maybe yesterday) that ARod isn't going to be traded. Which of course doesn't mean anything.

good luck with that extention, Scott.

Ha, yeah. There's no way he's going to get a $20M per year contract.

Yeah you're right, maybe 22.

I wonder if Boras is privy to some information that we don't have, like how much money the owners have REALLY been making.

Relax people, it's Scott Boras talking. Nobody listens to those ridiculous numbers he throws out. As for the no-trade contract, I would think Andruw will approve any trade that will get him an extension for a decent amount of money (but not $20 million per).

I never considered Jones a target this offseason anyway. Another 1 year rental. It would take too much in talent to trade for him, and you better believe Jones will test the free agent market, so an extension is out of the question.

I would hope he would be a target because he fills the role of an additional power hitter and he fills the CF hole with outstanding defense. Another reason is that the Braves might be good trade partners is because they will want young players, unlike the Yankees. Assuming he only stayed one year, it would be a great way to ease Pie into playing in the majors.

provided that Pie isnt included in the deal, which Atlanta may require

Time to switch focus to Vernon Wells!!!

If Boras/Jones are going to want $20 mill, then Boras better advise his client to find another profession, cause he won't be playing baseball for that amount.

And no, let's not focus on Vernon Wells, who is looking for Johnny Damon type contract (and yes, so is Torii Hunter) for his next contract.

Let's focus on Felix Pie, or one of the lower tier CFers, like Roberts/Lofton/Crisp.
