Just landed four BSU-Michigan tickets for two weeks from Saturday. I can't wait to check out the Big House for myself.

Computers supposedly eliminate the penalty for losing late. They also don't seem to like Texas, so I don't believe they'd pass OSU. The computers seem to love ND so I could them passing UM. I think it goes without saying that 11-1 ND or Texas teams would wind up ahead of 11-1 Michigan or OSU teams in the polls. Which is ridiculous.

It is ridiculous, but it certainly won't be unprecented whatsover. For example 2000-Washington beats Miami, Miami beats Florida State, they all finish 10-1, rankings go FSU-2, Miami-3, Washington-4. Or 1993 when ND beat FSU and then lost to BC in a very close game, and FSU got the nod and won the national title. The system always seems to be in college football that head to head is close to meaningless, and it's all about SOS and when a team lost. Michigan being behind ND if they lose to OSU or OSU being behind Texas if they lose to Michigan will just be a continuation of the college football tradition.

This is all pointless though, they should just award the title to the winner of the SEC title game. Then fill in spots 2-12 in the polls according to SEC standings.

The computers can, but the human polls, which still have a rather large pull in the BCS still have a penalty for losing late.

And to who proposed an OSU-Michigan rematch in the championship game, what good would that accomplish? The worst thing would be if Michigan beat OSU by 10 in Columbus and then OSU beat Michigan by 1 on neutral ground. What if the AP decided to vote Michigan #1 anyways?

Yeah, I think that if you have two teams that face each other in the last week of the season, they both shouldn't be in the NC unless there are some extreme circumstances.

like, say, they are obviously the best 2 teams in the country who shouldn't be penalized for being the same conference?

How would you know they are the two best teams in the country? Whichever team loses that game should not be in the national title game.

Especially if Michigan is the team that loses the game, I don't see how you can say they are obviously the best 2 teams in the country.

TBA's are in.

I don't anticipate ND having much trouble with UCLA...ND is 25-5 following bye weeks since 1984, and two of those losses were to top-ranked USC teams in 2004 and 2005. I won't see the game though because I will be at Ball State...

...watching Western probably plaster us. After what they did to Wolfe it's entirely possible that we may rush for negative 60 yards on Saturday. Then again, BSU has a tendency to make things very interesting against favorites when at home (see: BC 2004, NIU 2004, BG 2005, IU 2006), so we'll see. The Cards are pretty much done in the MAC West since they'd have to win out coupled with three CMU losses to win the division, so it's all for pride (and maybe the third MAC bowl tie-in) at this point.

UCLA QB Patrick Cowan has a throat injury (inflammed throat) which he sustained by getting punched while sacked by Oregon. He won't be able to verbally communicate during the game so UCLA seems to have come up with a set of complex hand signals. Fun times. If worst comes to worst, UCLA will have turn to RS freshman Osaar Rashaan.

God I can't wait for tomorrow's game. It'll be my first game of the season, and my first homecoming weekend as an alum. M-I-Z...!!!

Somebody please tell me why Arkansas is behind Auburn, Florida and LSU in the AP Poll? They dominate Auburn at Auburn and are way behind in the polls? They get punished for getting killed vs USC, please help me with this since the others played D2 teams and get rewarded.

Because they got killed at home against the other good team they faced. LSU has played multiple teams of that caliber, lost them both by close margins. Florida has beaten multiple teams of that caliber. Auburn beat two teams of that caliber.

Florida and Auburn definitely deserve to be up there. LSU it's hard to tell. They certainly have not proved anything. Other than their 2 losses (BTW, the Florida loss was never that close in the second half for them) they've blown out everyone they've played-but their schedule for their wins is horrible-Louisiana-Laffyette, Arizona, Tulane, Miss State, Kentucky. I really have no idea right now about how good LSU is.

Arkansas is getting hurt by the USC game, preseason predictions, but also the fact of a couple of other games. Vanderbilt had a field goal try to beat them in the closing seconds, and they had to beat Alabama in OT (and Bama should have won that game other than their ST was absolutely terrible-I believe a couple missed field goals, including one very late in the game, and the game-losing missed extra point in OT). So Arkansas really has only had 1 good game all year.

Morelli was cleared to play tomorrow. Sorry bout your luck Illini

EDIT: *%#(%#(& We get *&%# Pam #**# Ward and Mike (%# Gottfried again. Seriously, they are like the Joe Morgan and Tim McCarver of college football. Why am I made to suffer so?

At the risk of sounding sexist, she really needs to stick to women's basketball. She's HORRIBLE at calling football games. And Gottfried talks so slowly that 3 more plays have gone by by the time he finishes his "analysis" of the first one

Arrington might be out for UM tomorrow. Might be something like grades or something off field. Find out tomorrow. Suddenly the receiver corps could be really thin.

Ill be watching the Wisc/Purdue game at noon tomorrow. I really expect Wisc to beat them by 10+. Wisc has flown under the radar this year and really rolled up some points lately.

Z-O-U!

Hopefully crowd comes out in big numbers. I'm hearing 65,000, hopefully it's accurate.

Who did Auburn or Florida beat of that caliber that wasn't in the SEC?

Yes, they're both awful. I'm working my usual overnight shift tonight and since it's Illinois, I'm not going to wake up to watch the game. After hearing that Pam Ward and Mike Gottfried are doing the game, I'm even happier about my decision. They really are the worst announcing duo in college football.

Two Ball State freshmen players were arrested and are still in jail on charges of stealing laptops. One, Eulas Taylor, had played some DB for us this year, and the other, Brandon Houston, hasn't played any meaningful time. Both are suspended indefinitely but I suspect they will end up off the team.

I looked at some things this morning and find no mention of Arrington being out. I read a few places that he comes from 30 miles from Iowa City and went to Michigan because of the Fab Five. I wondered if it was the money or the clothing style

Yeah he's from Cedar Rapids where I live. Grew up a Michigan fan and picked them over us in his final two. A lot of fans thought he was crazy and could get lost in the shuffle with all of the great WR's UM always has, whereas he could have been the #1 guy at Iowa. It worked out for him up there though and Mario's injury really showcased him. If he's out today it would help our chances.

The injury bug for Iowa continues. Kenny Iwebema (DE, preseason All-Big Ten and AA in some mags) isn't making the trip due to injury, neither is Shonn Greene. Albert Young (#1 RB), Dominique Douglas (#1 WR), Mitch King (#1 DT), Dace Richardson (starting LT) and Rafael Eubanks (starting C) are all uncertain.

Injuries definitely aren't an excuse for the horrible loss at Indiana, but they certainly aren't helping. I woke up feeling a little optimistic this morning. Ferentz teams always bounce back from bad losses with great showings. Then again Ferentz teams never lose to teams like Indiana in October.

If you are an Iowa fan why not be optimistic. A loss is expected so you really have nothing to lose. Michigan may be coming in not ready and Iowa is still good enough to beat them if they arent prepared. Also last week Michigan really dominated Penn St and PSU still got the ball with almost 2 mins left with a chance to tie the game.

Good one. If it was the money that gravy train aint rolling no more, Ed Martin passed away :P (Note: im not infering im happy Ed died).

When AA came to AA he was their top recruit that year if he hadnt gutted his knee he would have had more playing time last year and Mario probably wouldnt have gotten as much PT. He also knew going in that they had a 5 star top 3 qb in Henne committing to UM. Thats nice for a WR. But yes he probably would've been a more focul point at Iowa.

Mike Gottfried blows. I swear he sounds drunker than Harry Caray.
