At one point yesterday, Lyons said something to the effect of, "Now you're speaking Spanish and my wallet is missing," to Lou Piniella.

I think I heard him making that comment but wasn't paying enough attention to digest it.

Well, it was a reference to something they were sort of talking about earlier, and I didn't think much of it at the time.

Whatever gets him fired though, that's fine with me.

Pathetically enough, Lyons was by far the best color guy FOX had.

Other than Al Leiter. Whatever happened to him? He was tremendous.

Political correctness run amuck.

you can't be serious - or else you didn't read that he followed that up with "I can't understand but I don't want to sit too close to you."

One of the most obnoxiously racist comments ever said on the air. Absolutely shocking and offensive. To categorize that level of ignorance as political correctness is misguided and ignorant.

It's a shame they didn't can him after his comments regarding Shawn Green.

Of course, it's also a shame they hired him in the first place.

The AP interpretation makes it seem like it was a reference to a previous conversation that was taken out of context.

In the second inning of Friday's game between Detroit and Oakland, Piniella talked about the success light-hitting A's infielder Marco Scutaro had in the first round of the playoffs. Piniella said that slugger Frank Thomas and Eric Chavez needed to contribute, comparing Scutaro's production to finding a "wallet on Friday" and hoping it happened again the next week.

Later, Piniella said the A's needed Thomas to get "en fuego" - hot in Spanish - because he was currently "frio" - or cold. After Brennaman praised Piniella for being bilingual, Lyons spoke up.

Lyons said that Piniella was "hablaing Espanol" - butchering the conjugation for the word "to speak" - and added, "I still can't find my wallet."

"I don't understand him, and I don't want to sit too close to him now," Lyons continued.

The part about not understanding him or wanting to sit next to him, is putting a stick in the spokes of any attempt to say he was misunderstood.

Eh, it could go either way from my perspective. I didn't hear the clip, but from what I've read, it may not be that he was saying that he didn't want to sit next to him because he was speaking spanish.

That being said, whether or not it was referring to a previous conversation -- it's really, really annoying when broadcasters do that anyway -- and here, at a moment when the material may be questionable, in the already over-PC society in which we live, it was completely stupid on his part.

i dont understand it... i was listening to the game when he said the wallet thing.. when i heard it i didnt care much.. well i thought it was a joke... thats why i didnt understand the firing.

anyways maybe it was because of something he said/or did before?

does anyone know why Brenly is not in the booth in this years playoffs?

What he said implied that spanish people steal.
