Face it...Its 99.9% that Hendry hires Piniella....If he pulled someone else out of nowhere, that would be completely shocking...And we know Hendry isnt quite the shocker or a guy who pulls out the moves we all want..

And this guy is gonna be our manager?

Piniella just asked Brennaman what a GED is. Are you kidding me? Even after he explained it he still acted like he had never heard of it before.

He knows what ERA stands for.

But does he recognize that RA+ is more stable than ERA or even ERA+ from year to year?

Just when I think things cannot possibly get any worse.

Just wait until ARam walks...

And Rothschild is brought back...

And Neifi is resigned for the bench in December...

Still under contract for next season. Maybe hendry can give them that catcher back

The ALCS is over, Lou Piniella is now available... let the short-sighted, inside the box, lightning in a bottle, managerial retread begin!

Hey, it worked for the White Sox and Tigers. Why not us?

Does it matter if the manager knows that?

I doubt many managers are familiar with stats like that. I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised.

You're probably not wrong, and I don't expect them to either.

I do expect them to understand OBP, the importance of BB's (both offensively and by our pitching staff), pitcher abuse, how to create a good lineup, and not making consistently terrible in-game managing decisions

All managers are going to make bad in-game decisions, I understand and accept that. I just don't want them to do it repeatedly like Busty.

I too don't expect them to understand those things. I would like them to be able to consult a run expectancy chart.

I THINK lou was my 3rd choice (let me check that...)

Girardi

Bochy

Lou

Satan

Yup, #3.

He is better than Busty. He has tailored his game to his team (Seattle, Yanks). He is not afraid to skewer and slowly flay a player (when they deserve it, sometime probably when they don't). He seems to expect to win and will do what he can to make it happen (something Dusty sure didn't. He seemed to feel winning was pre-ordained and unlikely to be impacted by his actions, so just let it FLOOOOOW baby....)

I betcha Hendry is trying to say with this hiring "see? He isn't at all like that last guy, what's his name!" when in fact he is just another example of the same, only white and with more of a temper. Add Hendry "Now when they fire Torre we will have stolen their manager to be! Take that (as the Yankees shrug their atlas-like shoulders and hire Girardi...)

All I want Lou to do is protect the pitcher's arms. We already know that any available manager is gonna be old school and overdo (mostly) useless things like sac bunts and the hit and run. Anyone available is gonna put the fastest guy in the leadoff spot, and probably demand useless veteran bench players that could easily be filled by league-minimum rookies.

So, just protect the young arms, and do whatever else.

Agreed with the general point. I'm sure I could study and hand pick a manager myself and I would still complain about some in game moves.

OF course, Piniella has run Randy Johnson and Freddy Garcia into the ground and his likely pitching coach has sat quietly while 2 of his aces have been run into the ground.

This never gets old. Pretty damn funny!

That clip is EXACTLY why we need him here - he has the intensity we need

I'm...Hoping thats a joke.

A hothead manager is exactly what we dont need. We already have one ignorant hot head managing a baseball team in chicago, we dont need another.

I have to disagree here. Watching Lou lose his mind will best part about next season.

That may be true since the Cubs surely won't do much worth watching.

Haha, ok, you win. I was simply talking about if we wanted to win. But hell, i'm down for a comedy. Its better then the last two years.

And let the doom and gloom scenarios begin. One minute a manager has hardly impact on the overall team, next minute the hiring of a World Series manager means that the entrie season is lost and the Cubs will be horrible.

Do any of you guys who actually listen to him on any of his recent broadcasts?

Yesterday's broadcast

Made the comment that Craig Monroe (and his .300 OBP) should not have been batting #2 in the batting order.

Made numerous comments about the importance of working the count. (throughout the whole series).

Made comments about not just giving up outs.(Regard to bunting to move a runner).

He sounds like he has a pretty good idea about how to win. Further, Piniella has proven that he can win with a good team. If Hendry signs Lou, I'm sure its with the understanding that Hendry isn't going to be hoping for a good team in 3 years. The best news we could have hoped for was that the Cubs were going to be serious about winning next year, and not continue to give us fans the same old hope and "wait 'til next year" garbage.

While I'm not sold on Lou, why does Brenly get some credit for supposedly "learning" during his 2 years as a broadcaster but Lou couldn't possibly have picked anything up in his time off working as an analyst/commentator? It seems to be a bit of a double standard. Granted, I'd rather have Brenly than Lou, but the talk like Lou is going to make this team worse than it has been the last 2 years is getting pretty absurd.

Brenly has actually acknowledged OBP and pitcher abuse during his tenure. Lou has bemoaned OBP and said that baseball needs more "thinkers".

If Piniella brings Chambliss and McLaren with him, this might be a good move for the offense.

Yup. I've certainly warmed to Piniella thanks to his comments in the booth.
