blah. i don't usually complain about calls, but there were some awful calls in that game. i'm not sure it mattered, but it's still lame.

 

i think florida will lose in the second round this year.

The Big 10 tournament quarterfinals could potentially be amazing this year:

 

Purdue vs Iowa-two pretty even teams. Purdue needs the win to get in the tourney, while Iowa probably needs to win the Big 10 tourney, and they've historically been good in it.

Michigan vs Ohio State-they just played a great game on Saturday, another game would be great.

Wisconsin vs Mich State-they've split 2 close matchups in the last couple weeks, and a 3rd game would be great.

IU vs Illinois-do I need to say anything more about this game on this board? :D

 

I'm very excited to watch-every game Friday and after could have some great intrigue.

As GT just destroyed BC, Duke and Georgia Tech will finish with identical conference records; 8-8. Duke played the toughest ACC schedule, Tech's was rated 4th.

 

Conference tournament aside, it'd be interesting to see where Lunardi and others have each team:

 

Duke, 22-9, 8-8 ACC, 9-9 vs Top 50 (Most games against Top 50 in NCAA)

GT, 20-10, 8-8 ACC, 8-8 vs Top 50 (2nd most games against Top 50 in NCAA)

1-1 against each other; wins on home court

 

My guess, Duke will be in as a 5 and Tech in as a 9 (ugh - potential matchup with a 1).

I have to miss ND's 2nd round game thanks to class - but at least we have computers so I can watch on Sportsline.

 

Oh, and Ball State lost 71-67 to Western Michigan. Just my luck that I was enrolled in school for the worst season in Ball State history (the 22 losses that we will end up with is a record).

Boy, I wasn't happy that the lower seed got to play the inferior team, and it sure showed today. #2 Bucknell had no trouble with #6 Army, while #4 American gave #1 HC a real tough game - not surprising, since American has played HC and Bucknell tough all year, taking HC to overtime once and losing by a total of 9 points in their two games against Bucknell. Our best player hit a runner in the lane with about 4 seconds left to give us the 2 point win. Wish they'd reseed after the first round, though.

 

So, no shock to anyone - Holy Cross (24-8) versus Bucknell (22-8) for the final. Should be a really close, low-scoring game. I wouldn't have minded if Bucknell lost to Army, but really, this is the way it should have turned out. Both teams are 15-1 in the PL, and no other team finished better than 8-8.

 

HC will also host the women's final. The top two PL seeds went out in the first round, Bucknell (20-10) somehow lost to Colgate (6-25) and Army (24-6) lost to Lehigh (11-19). So the PL final in "bitchball", as JR would call it, is HC (15-17) against American (13-18). I think the winner can head down to Durham and get crushed by Duke.

 

Other thoughts... I'd be really surprised if Ga Tech isn't a lock at this point. They're playing well and have 8 wins against top 50 RPI teams. Also, Clemson really helped itself with a huge win at Va Tech. VT should still be in, but Clemson has at least given itself a shot. With a win or two in the ACC tourney, they can earn their way in.

Well, it'd be fun to get in the tourney off of a 2nd win against IU, but man did I want that Iowa game. I also don't like having to beat PSU for a 3rd time. Not that I think they'd necessarily deserve it(I go back and forth), but has a Big 6 team ever been left out with 22 wins?
