Northwestern takes down DePaul 49-39!!!

I'm glad they were able to host DePaul so early in the non-con season. Last time they played at Welsh-Ryan, students were already gone for winter break. Sounded like a nice student atmosphere tonight.

DePaul is awful. Just lost to Northwestern (no offense Jon) 45-36

(ok theres 31 seconds left but its over)

DePaul is no Cornell.

ND beats Lafayette 92-60. I'm so pissed off that they blew a chance to make their non-con SOS go up by losing yesterday (would've played IU).

On the bright side, Luke Harangody is a freaking stud as a true frosh. 18 points and 5 boards. I give it till mid-December before he takes Luke Zeller's job (what a bust he's been).

I'm really surprised at DePaul's poor play. They have some players. Oh well. I was hoping that game would be tough since the Big 12 is so weak, but two of KU's noncon games--DePaul and BC--have already lost in embarrassing fashion.

On the plus side, NAU, who we waxed pretty badly, took down Arizona St. in their next game. I'm assuming ASU is a Pac 10 bottom feeder.

Two days in a row during the IU game Dick Vitale has called out Sampson for the Eric Gordon recruitment. I like it.

It's also the 4,860th straight day he called for Assembly Hall to be renamed for Coach Knight. Doesn't make the least bit of difference.

Indiana LOSES to Butler, 60-55! One of Butler's players hit a 3 pointer from NBA 3 point range as the shot clock expired with 5 seconds left on the game clock to ice the game.

Couldn't happen to a nicer team. SIU absolutely has to beat the Hoosiers now.

Wow! I feel a lot less bad about ND losing to Butler now.

Ball State plays both Butler and IU in the month of December, so that should be interesting. If we could get one of those it'd be HUGE (both are on the road).

The Cards' next opponent (Prairie View A&M) beat some team that has no link on Sportsline.com called the Southwest Assembly of God by four points tonight, so I figure BSU will go 2-0.

Ehh, probably somewhere around there. They have one good player (Pendergraph).

IU looking like Davis is still coaching them.

What a joke. Ugh.

I'm hard pressed to understand why White couldn't seem to effectively post up and even when he did, the guards weren't dribbling down to get a better angle to feed the ball into the post. For a coach that seems hell-bent on feeding the post (as Sampson claims to be) they sure don't look like they have put a lot of practice into it. This is pretty basic stuff.

How did Vitale "call out" Sampson? He said he should have called Weber, that's it. He also said any coach would have recuited Gordon if put in Sampson's situation.

Just the part where he said a man would have called Weber. To most of us that would be an insult.

Is Butler supposed to be any good this year, or did ND and IU just have bad games against them? If they were supposed to be good, they certainly haven't gotten the press that the MVC teams have gotten. And that's not to say Butler is as good as either, but I haven't heard anything about them.

Not entirely sure because Loyola is supposed to be the favorite in the Horizon. Dickie V said that Butler got two first place votes for the Horizon conference, but Butler also received a last place vote. Supposedly, they are going to be real good, or real bad. So far, they're definitely leaning towards the 'good' direction.

Iowa looked a little better than expected tonight, beating The Citadel 75-53. They'll still be playing without Henderson until at least December with a broken finger. Tyler Smith was in foul trouble all night and was really forcing things.

Haluska had 29 points (6-14 from 3), 6 assists and 5 boards. Tony Freeman had 7 points, 11 assists and 6 boards. Kurt Looby had 14 boards and 3 blocks and Cyrus Tate had 13 off the bench.

They start play in the Paradise Jam on Friday with Toledo who returns 5 starters from a 20 win MAC team. If they win they play #12 Alabama on Sunday.

any of you hawk fans go to the game? I heard for a Hawk fan on the iB there were only about 400 fans. That can't be right, can it?

No.

It was very empty, but the estimates are that it was around 5,000 or so.

Butler played pretty well. They lost a great deal from last year, but they also got a great transfer guard that can drive. That is huge for them-because he drives, and then he simply kicks to all their 3 point threats that they have every year. They also play tenacious defense at times-they really had Indiana bottled up for a while, although the horribly tight officiating had everybody on eggshells and most of the people on the bench most of the night (5 players on each side had 2 fouls at the half, Indiana had White, Calloway, and Ratliff on the bench for half of the second half with 4 fouls-and the game was not a physical game whatsoever!) It will be hard to tell with Butler when the officiating becomes more loose (favoring the more physical teams, and not the free throw and 3 point shooting teams). They do several things well though: pretty good defense, pretty good 3 point shooting, pretty good free throw shooting, and like I said 1 guy who can penetrate. With all that, they might be able to make up some of their athletic deficiencies and their terrible lack of size.

Winthrop looks good thus far.

Down 4 to UNC with under 5 left. On ESPN for those interested.

Now a 10 point game. Winthrop is really starting to show that they are playing on back-to-back nights.

Still they are going to be a very dangerous team this year and they will probably pull off an upset or two come March.

Wow...Illinois is down to Jackson State, 31-21 with 4:30 left in the first half. Ugh

We don't have our three best players for a while. This could get ugly.
